The drive is built around IT, digital banking, information security, law, fire safety, security and civil engineering, not general banking.

This is a lateral, experience-led officer intake with the bank’s own professional-knowledge paper. It is not IBPS SO. If your degree, certificate and post-qualification experience already match Annexure I, this window is the one that matters.

What Posts Are Available? – Bank of India Vacancy & Eligibility 2026

Manager-scale seats dominate this drive: 118 of 205 posts sit in MMGS-II. Full-Stack Engineering is the single largest cluster at 38 posts across four scales. Civil Engineer, Law Officer and Security Officer have 10 seats each. Chief Manager (Scale IV) has only 10 seats in total, so those roles are scarce and experience-heavy.

Exact years of experience, mandatory certificates (CISA, CISM, CISSP, OCP Java, PMP, TOGAF, AWS/Azure and others), and preferred skills differ by designation. Read Annexure I before you pick a post. Use our Experience Calculator against the years printed for your chosen row.

Pay footnote for all tables below: Scale I = JMGS-I; Scale II = MMGS-II; Scale III = MMGS-III; Scale IV = SMGS-IV.

Qualifications must be from a university/institute recognised by the Government of India or the relevant regulator (AICTE where applicable).

What Is the Age Limit?

What Is the Application Fee?

CategoryFee (inclusive of GST)
SC / ST / PwBD₹175 (intimation charges only)
UR / EWS / OBC₹1,180 (application fee + intimation charges)

Pay online only from 10 September 2026 to 25 September 2026 via debit/credit card, internet banking, UPI, QR, cash card or mobile wallet. Bank transaction charges are extra. The fee is not refunded if you later find you are ineligible, and the fee paid on a discarded multiple application is forfeited.

How to Apply?

The apply button on the careers page is scheduled to go live on 10 September 2026. Until then, read the notice and keep Annexure I documents scanned.

  1. Open the Bank of India recruitment page. Click CAREER, then Recruitment of Officers in various streams upto Scale IV – Project No. 2026-27/02, then APPLY ONLINE.
  2. Register with an active email ID and mobile number. Use SAVE AND NEXT and check every field before you lock the form.
  3. Upload a passport-size photograph, signature in black ink, left thumb impression and the handwritten declaration in the prescribed size. Resize files with the Photo & Signature Resizer so the portal does not reject them.
  4. Upload educational, experience and mandatory certificate files named in Annexure I. Shortlisting can rest on what you upload here.
  5. Preview the form. Click COMPLETE REGISTRATION only after you are sure. No change is allowed after that click.
  6. Pay the fee on the Payment tab. Save the e-receipt and the system-generated application. Do not post paper copies to the bank.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Applying for two posts. The notice says: if more than one application is submitted, only the latest valid (completed) application will be considered. Fees paid for earlier registrations will stand forfeited.
  2. Picking a CISA/CISM/CISSP post without a live certificate as of 01 August 2026. Preferred certificates do not replace a mandatory one.
  3. Counting internship, article-ship or pre-qualification work as “post-qualification experience.”
  4. Waiting until 25 September 2026 to upload experience letters. The portal can reject undersized images, and the bank will not edit the form after Complete Registration.
  5. Serving employees skipping the NOC. Produce it at the interview if you work in government or a PSU.

How Are Candidates Selected?

Selection is a chain of stages, not a single exam score.

  1. Online application + document upload on the Bank of India portal.
  2. Online examination (the bank may skip this and go to interview if it so decides).
  3. Shortlisting in about a 1:3 ratio to vacancies.
  4. Personal interview (100 marks).
  5. Document verification and medical fitness, then offer and joining.

If both the exam and interview are held, weightage is 60% online exam: 40% interview. Final appointment is subject to vacancy, reservation roster, medical fitness and verification. English marks are qualifying only and do not enter the merit list.

Exam pattern

SectionMarksNatureDuration
English Language25Qualifying onlyComposite 100 minutes
Professional Knowledge (post-specific)100MeritComposite 100 minutes

Minimum in the online exam: 35% for UR/EWS and 30% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD (the notice also states a 5% relaxation on the 35% benchmark). Interview qualifying marks: 50% for UR/EWS and 45% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD. Penalty for a wrong answer is one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question. Unanswered questions carry no penalty. Professional Knowledge is bilingual (English and Hindi). The exam date will be advised separately.

No separate physical-efficiency test is listed in the current notice for these officer posts. Security Officer and Fire Officer candidates should still expect a standard officer medical.

Why Does Bank of India Matter?

Bank of India is a nationalised public sector bank with Head Office at Star House, Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mumbai. It sits in the public sector banking system under the Department of Financial Services. The current intake is meant to staff digital platforms, core-banking support, cybersecurity, legal, premises and security functions rather than branch general banking.

Candidates search “Bank of India career” and “Bank of India vacancy 2026” because the bank runs its own specialist drives besides IBPS PO/Clerk allotments. They also search “Bank of India specialist officer salary” because Scale II–IV IBA pay is higher than a fresh JMGS-I PO start. A third cluster is “Bank of India SO apply online link”, because the button lives under CAREER and is not a separate IBPS form.

The honest limit: first posting can be any zone in India, including non-metro centres, and the three-year security deposit makes an early exit expensive. That is the trade-off against IBA pay and officer grade.

Internal reading: more public sector banking drives on our Banking & Insurance sector page and organisation notes on Bank of India.

The SahisarkariJobs.in Analyst’s Take

Compare this with the closest tabs a specialist candidate actually keeps open: IBPS SO 2026 and the 2026 specialist drives of Union Bank of India and SBI. IBPS SO is a national three-stage exam aimed mainly at Scale I specialists. Bank of India’s Project 2026-27/02 is the bank’s own paper plus interview, and most seats sit in Scale II–IV. You compete on professional knowledge and proven experience, not on a common prelims-mains funnel.

Best fit: working IT engineers, InfoSec analysts, Finacle/core-banking support staff, certified CISA/CISM/CISSP holders, practising law officers, civil engineers and security professionals who already meet Annexure I and want IBA officer pay inside a public sector bank.

Who should skip: freshers with no post-qualification experience; candidates who will apply “just in case” without the listed certificate; anyone who wants a guaranteed metro first posting; applicants who prefer a single IBPS form that covers many banks.

Practical tip: Print Annexure I, highlight the one post whose mandatory certificate and experience you can prove as on 01 August 2026, and keep that file set ready before 10 September 2026. Changing the post after Complete Registration is not allowed.

On timeline, similar Bank of India specialist cycles have often taken several months from application to joining. Plan for the exam (if held), interview, medical and notice period at your current employer.

What Documents Are Required?

Upload at registration: photograph, signature, left thumb impression, handwritten declaration, education proofs, experience letters and any mandatory certificate named in Annexure I.

Carry to interview (originals + copies):

  • Interview call letter and printed online application
  • Date of birth proof (birth certificate or Class X)
  • Photo ID (PAN/passport/driving licence / Aadhaar as accepted on the call letter)
  • Marksheets and degree showing result on or before 01 August 2026
  • Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL) in the prescribed format
  • EWS income and asset certificate, if applicable
  • PwBD certificate (40% or more), if applicable
  • Ex-servicemen discharge/service documents
  • NOC if employed in government or a PSU
  • Experience certificates matching Annexure I
  • 1984 riots certificate, if claiming that relaxation
  • Scribe undertaking, if used

Document alert: OBC creamy-layer and expired CISA/CISM/CISSP printouts are common rejection points. Certificates must be valid on 01 August 2026.

Service Conditions

✅ Confirmed in the notice: all-India posting and transfer liability; refundable security deposit for three years; vacancies inclusive of backlog and provisional; post names are indicative, and the bank may recast designations.
❓ Not specified in the current notice: exact probation length, pension wording, bond beyond the security deposit, and hostel/housing guarantee.

Officers of public sector banks are generally covered under NPS and the bank’s officer service regulations after joining. Do not assume a house is allotted at the first station.

What Happens After Selection?

  1. The bank publishes a shortlist/interview call on the careers page. Download the call letter from there, not from third-party sites.
  2. Attend the interview with originals. Expect questions on your uploaded experience, tools and the post you chose.
  3. On provisional selection, complete document verification and the officer medical exam.
  4. Deposit the scale-wise security amount and complete joining formalities at the allotted office.
  5. Report to the posted location anywhere in India. First posting is the bank’s decision, not a candidate preference form in this notice.
  6. Serve the three-year window attached to the security deposit. Leaving early can cost the full deposit. Confirmation and further promotion follow the bank’s officer rules and vacancies.

Career path in a public sector bank specialist stream is typically Officer / Manager → Senior Manager → Chief Manager, then further grades by vacancy, performance and internal process. Specialist IT staff may stay in technology units or move into project roles; Law, Fire, Security and Civil usually remain in their function.

FAQs – Bank of India SO 2026

Q1: What is the last date to apply for Bank of India SO 2026?

A: 25 September 2026. Online registration and fee payment both close on that day. No extension is announced as of 31 August 2026. The application link is scheduled to open on 10 September 2026 on the official careers page.

Q2: What is the age limit for Bank of India SO?

A: Most Scale I posts: 21–30 years. Most Scale II posts: 25–35. Most Scale III posts: 28–37. Most Scale IV posts: 28–40. OBC gets 3 extra years, SC/ST 5, PwBD 10. Age is calculated as of 01 August 2026.

Q3: Is there an exam for Bank of India SO, or is it interview-based?

A: It depends. The bank may hold an online exam (English 25 + Professional Knowledge 100, 100 minutes, 1/4 negative marking) and an interview, or it may select through an interview only. If both are conducted, the weightage is 60:40.

Q4: What is the salary of Bank of India SO?

A: Around ₹55,000–65,000 in-hand at JMGS-I in a metro, rising to about ₹75,000–85,000 at MMGS-II and ₹95,000–1,10,000 at MMGS-III. Chief Manager (SMGS-IV) starts at a basic ₹1,02,300. Figures are indicative under the 12th BPS.

Q5: Can final-year students or result-awaited candidates apply for Bank of India 2026?

A: No. Qualification and experience must be completed as of 01 August 2026. Produce marksheets and certificates showing the result on or before that date at document verification.

Q6: Is Bank of India SO a permanent government job?

A: Yes. These are regular public sector bank officer posts in JMGS-I to SMGS-IV, not contractual seats. A three-year refundable security deposit applies. NPS-style deductions apply as for PSU bank officers after joining.

Q7: Can candidates from other states apply for Bank of India recruitment?

A: Yes. This is an all-India recruitment. Indian citizens (and other nationality categories listed in the notice with a Government of India eligibility certificate) can apply. No state domicile is required.

Q8: Where will I be posted if I get selected for Bank of India SO?

A: Anywhere in India. The notice says candidates must be ready to work anywhere. You do not get a home-state guarantee in this advertisement.

Q9: Is there negative marking in this exam?

A: Yes. One-fourth of the marks assigned to a question are deducted for every wrong answer. There is no penalty for leaving a question blank. English is qualifying only; Professional Knowledge drives merit.

Q10: Can I apply for more than one specialist post?

A: No. You can apply for only one post. If more than one application is submitted for the same recruitment, only the last valid completed application will be considered. Fees paid for other registrations will stand forfeited.

Q11: What are the disadvantages of working as a specialist officer in a public sector bank?

A: Worth knowing before you apply: first posting can be far from home, transfers continue through your career, and the security deposit is forfeited if you leave before three years. Scale II–IV pay is strong, but the lock-in is real.

Q12: How much do specialist officers earn in public sector banks?

A: IBA Scale I officers often take home about ₹55,000–65,000 in metros. Scale II managers are commonly around ₹75,000–85,000. Scale III and IV rise toward ₹1 lakh and above, before city HRA and individual deductions. Private-bank CTC can look higher; PSB pay is more standardised.

Q13: Is a bank specialist officer better than an IBPS PO?

A: It depends on your profile. IBPS PO is a generalist Scale I entry with a common exam. This Bank of India drive hires specialists, many already at Scale II–IV. Experienced IT or law professionals usually earn more here than a new PO. Fresh graduates are a better match for IBPS PO.
