Quick Reference
SSC CGL: +2·−0.5
UPSC: +2·−0.667
RRB: +1·−0.333
IBPS/SBI: +1·−0.25
SSC MTS: +1·−0.25
CDS: +1·−0.333
💡 Negative Marking Strategy
IBPS / SBI (−0.25): Attempt if ≥25% confident. Even eliminating 1 wrong option makes guessing profitable.
SSC CGL / CHSL (−0.5): Attempt if ≥33% confident. Skip if you cannot eliminate at least 2 options.
RRB NTPC / CDS (−0.333): Attempt if ≥25% confident. Similar to banking exams — attempt more.
UPSC Prelims (−0.667): Strictest — only if ≥60% confident. For every 3 wrong, you lose 2 marks. Accuracy matters more than attempts.
Track accuracy in mock tests: If accuracy < 80%, focus on reducing wrong answers before increasing total attempts.

Frequently Asked Questions
Final Score = (Correct Answers × Marks per Correct) − (Wrong Answers × Negative Marks per Wrong). Unattempted questions carry zero marks — no penalty. Example for SSC CGL: 80 correct, 15 wrong → (80×2) − (15×0.5) = 160 − 7.5 = 152.5 marks out of 200.
SSC CGL Tier-I: 100 questions, +2 per correct, −0.5 per wrong, total 200 marks. Wrong answers are auto-calculated as Attempted − Correct in this calculator.
UPSC Prelims GS Paper I: 100 questions, +2 per correct, −0.667 (two-thirds) per wrong. This is the strictest negative marking in any major Indian exam. Only attempt if 60%+ confident.
IBPS PO and Clerk: +1 per correct, −0.25 per wrong. Most lenient — you need 1 correct for every 4 wrong to break even. Attempt if 25%+ confident.
RRB NTPC CBT-1: 100 questions, +1 per correct, −0.333 (one-third) per wrong. Attempt if 25%+ confident. Example: 72 correct, 20 wrong → 72 − 6.66 = 65.34.
For IBPS (−0.25): attempt if 25%+ confident. For SSC (−0.5): attempt if 33%+ confident. For UPSC (−0.667): only if 60%+ confident. Track your accuracy in mock tests to find your optimal attempt strategy.
CDS (Combined Defence Services): +1 per correct, −0.333 per wrong. Cut-offs are typically 50–55% of total marks. Same penalty as RRB NTPC.
