Eligibility – Education, Age & Domicile

Only Indian nationals may apply. Minimum qualification is B.E./B. Tech or equivalent, completed within the university’s stipulated duration, with 65% marks or CGPA 6.84/10. No relaxation in this marks cut-off for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD.

ISRO does not allow converting CGPA to percentage or percentage to CGPA. If the marksheet shows both, at least one figure must meet the norm. Use our CGPA to Percentage Calculator only as an indicative check. The official formula in the notification prevails, and here that formula is: no conversion.

Accepted equivalent paths (from the official FAQ): B.Sc Engineering; diploma / B.Sc lateral entry into B.E./B. Tech; AMIE if registered on or before 31 May 2013 and aggregate of Sections A and B together meets 65% or CGPA 6.84. Part-time courses are eligible. Correspondence courses are not. MCA is not eligible for Computer Science codes. Pursuing M.E./M. Tech is allowed if the B.E./B. Tech itself meets the cut-off; PG gives no extra written-test weightage.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Treating this as the GATE drive (Advt 02). This advertisement is CBT + interview. GATE score is not used here.
  • Converting CGPA with a university formula. ISRO rejects that method.
  • Applying with a branch that is missing from the FAQ list, then discovering it at scrutiny.
  • Finishing B.E./B.Tech after the minimum course duration and still applying.
  • Skipping CBT after paying ₹750 and losing the entire fee.
  • Entering a wrong refund account number.
  • Serving Central/State/PSU/autonomous employees arriving for interview without NOC.
  • Uploading a photo with a cap, dark glasses or a signature in CAPITAL letters.

  2. Written Test / CBT
  3. Shortlisting for interview (about 1:5, minimum 10 candidates)
  4. Interview (100 marks)

Academic-achievement marks in the notification include extra credit for IIT/IISc/IIST/NIT/NIRF top-20 background, high CGPA/percentage bands and university ranks 1–3. Final panel uses 50% CBT + 50% interview. Aggregate bar cited by detailed extracts of this advertisement: 60% for unreserved, 50% for PwBD. Tie-break order: CBT marks, then marks in the essential qualification, then older date of birth.

No travel allowance for CBT. Second-class train fare is reimbursed for the interview. Previous ICRB papers for Electronics, Mechanical and Computer Science (2023 and 2025) are hosted on the official advertisement page.

Why Does Indian Space Research Organisation Matter?

The Indian Space Research Organisation is the national space agency under the Department of Space. Centres design and fly launch vehicles, communication and remote-sensing satellites, and related ground systems. Scientist/Engineer ‘SC’ is the standard Group ‘A’ entry grade for engineering graduates into that system.

Work sits inside a mission calendar, not a generic office roster. First posting can be Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Sriharikota, Mahendragiri, Hassan or another listed unit. PRL seats are in an autonomous lab, not a constituent ISRO Centre, and those three posts are Non-Gazetted.

Candidates search this employer for space-programme work, Level-10 pay and a Central Government scientific cadre. The less-advertised side is transfer liability across the Department of Space and a young-age cap of 28. Compare the ISRO organisation page and the space science & technology sector guide before you treat this as just another PSU form.

The SahisarkariJobs.in Analyst’s Take

This advertisement is the written-test twin of the GATE-based Scientist/Engineer ‘SC’ drive that closed in mid-August 2026. DRDO Scientist ‘B’, BARC OCES/DGFS and other Department of Space centre-level ads are the tabs most of these candidates already have open. Against the GATE pipeline, this one resets the shortlist through ICRB’s own CBT. Against DRDO/BARC, ISRO still sells mission hardware and flight calendars rather than a pure lab track. It does not sell location choice.

Best fit: B.E./B. Tech holders in ECE, Mechanical or CSE (and the FAQ allied list) who already sit near 65% or CGPA 6.84, can relocate to a project site, and want a Central scientific post more than a private product-engineering CTC. Candidates who missed Advt 02 still have this window.

Who should skip: Anyone below both percentage and CGPA cut-offs; MCA applicants aiming at the CS code; people who cannot accept Sriharikota / Mahendragiri / Hassan-type postings; and applicants who need a 30-plus age cap. If you only want a GATE shortlist with no written paper, that route was Advt 02, not this one.

Practical tip: Download the official 2023 and 2025 Electronics, Mechanical and Computer Science papers from the ISRO ICRB Advt 03 page before you touch a coaching booklet. Part B is 20 marks with no negative marking. Leaving it blank is a free gift to the cut-off.

What Documents Are Required?

Keep scans ready at application and originals for interview / DV:

  • B.E./B.Tech marksheets and degree (all semesters; duration must match university rules)
  • Date-of-birth proof (Class 10 certificate)
  • Photo and signature in the notified pixel and file-size limits
  • Category / PwBD / Ex-servicemen certificate if claiming refund or reservation (PwBD certificate in the prescribed format, 40%+, preferably UDID)
  • NOC for serving Central/State/PSU/autonomous employees (produced at interview)
  • Bank details matching the refund account
  • Valid photo ID for CBT and interview
  • GATE scorecard is not a document for this advertisement

Document alert: a converted CGPA certificate will not replace a marksheet that shows 6.70. The board reads the figure printed by the university.

Service Conditions

  • Nature: temporary, but likely to continue
  • Cadre: Group ‘A’ Gazetted at constituent ISRO Centres; Group ‘A’ Non-Gazetted at PRL
  • Pension: New Pension Scheme
  • Transfer: any Centre/Unit of ISRO / Department of Space, as required
  • Facilities named in the notification: medical for self and dependents, subsidised canteen, limited quarters in lieu of HRA, LTC, Group Insurance, House Building Advance, as per Central Government orders
  • Legal jurisdiction: Bengaluru, Karnataka
  • Bond/probation length: not specified in this advertisement

Hostel, canteen and quarters are subject to the terms in the notification and availability. They are not a guaranteed package at every centre.

What Happens After Selection?

  1. ICRB publishes the panel. Offer / joining instructions follow centre allocation, not a candidate-chosen city list.
  2. Document verification checks degree, duration, marks/CGPA, category and NOC. A mismatch here drops the candidate after the interview.
  3. Medical examination confirms fitness for a scientific/engineering post at the allotted centre.
  4. Joining is as Scientist/Engineer ‘SC’ on Level-10, ₹56,100 basic, NPS enrolment and centre-level induction.
  5. Early work is project or subsystem work under senior scientists: design, analysis, test, software or ground systems, depending on Electronics, Mechanical or Computer Science posting.
  6. Promotion towards Scientist/Engineer ‘SD’ (Level-11) and later grades follows Department of Space assessment rules, not an automatic year-count promised in this notice.
  7. Transfers can follow mission load. A first year at VSSC or SDSC SHAR is a realistic outcome even if you sat the CBT in Delhi.

Timeline from application to joining in recent ICRB scientific drives is often several months after the CBT. Exact dates for this cycle are not out.

FAQs – ISRO Scientist/Engineer SC 2026

Q1: What is the last date to apply for ISRO Scientist/Engineer SC 2026?

A: 16 September 2026, 11:55 PM. Fee payment closes the same night. No extension is announced as of 27 August 2026. Submit a day early; both Bharatkosh plus the form both have to be cleared.

Q2: What is the age limit for ISRO Scientist/Engineer SC?

A: 28 years as of 16 September 2026. PwBD gets relaxation as per GoI orders (typically +10 years). Ex-servicemen and serving Central Government civilian employees also get notified GoI relaxation. Age is not counted from any other date.

Q3: Is there an exam for ISRO Scientist/Engineer SC, or is it interview-based?

A: Yes, there is a CBT. Part A is 80 discipline questions with −1/3 negative marking. Part B is an aptitude paper of up to 15 questions. An interview follows for about five times the number of vacancies. GATE is not used in Advt 03.

Q4: What is the salary of ISRO Scientist/Engineer SC?

A: Level-10, basic ₹56,100. Indicative in-hand is about ₹86,000–₹1,01,000 a month after NPS, depending on city class and whether quarters replace HRA. DA, HRA and TA follow Central Government rates.

Q5: Can final-year students or result-awaited candidates apply for ISRO 2026?

A: Only if the B.E./B. Tech is completed within the university’s stipulated duration, and the 65% or CGPA 6.84 figure is in hand as required for this form. The advertisement does not open a separate “result awaited” window. Produce the degree at DV.

Q6: Is ISRO Scientist/Engineer SC a permanent government job?

A: It is Regular Government Service in a Group ‘A’ scientific cadre. The notice says posts are temporary but likely to continue. Pension is through NPS, not the old pension scheme. PRL seats are Non-Gazetted.

Q7: Can candidates from other states apply for ISRO recruitment?

A: Yes. This is an all-India Department of Space recruitment. Indian nationality is required. No state domicile certificate is asked for in this advertisement.

Q8: Where will I be posted if I get selected for Scientist/Engineer SC?

A: At an ISRO Centre/Unit or at PRL. First posting is decided by the organisation. You can later be moved to any Department of Space centre as needed. Remote project sites are part of the deal.

Q9: Is GATE score required for this ISRO recruitment?

A: No. Advt. No. ISRO: ICRB:03(EMC):2026 shortlists through ICRB’s written test. The separate GATE-based advertisement was ISRO: ICRB:02, and that window has closed. Do not upload a GATE card expecting it to replace CBT.

Q10: Is ISRO a government organisation?

A: Yes. ISRO is the national space agency under the Department of Space, Government of India. Constituent centres offer Group ‘A’ Gazetted Scientist/Engineer ‘SC’ posts. PRL is an autonomous body under the same department.

Q11: What is the career growth after a space-agency Scientist/Engineer SC post?

A: Entry is Level-10. The next published grade in the same cadre is Scientist/Engineer ‘SD’ at Level-11 (basic ₹67,100). Further movement depends on Department of Space assessment rules, not a timeline printed in this notice.

Q12: Do space research scientists get government housing?

A: Limited quarters may be allotted instead of HRA, subject to availability and centre rules. The notification does not guarantee a house at joining. If you stay in quarters, HRA typically stops.

Q13: What are the disadvantages of an ISRO Scientist/Engineer SC posting?

A: The honest downside is the 28-year cap plus all-India transfer, including project sites such as Sriharikota and Mahendragiri. CBT also carries −1/3 negative marking in Part A. There is no printed bond in this notice, but location comfort is not on offer.

Final Checklist – Is This the Right Job for You?

Use this quick checklist before you apply:

  • You meet the age and educational criteria as on 16 September 2026 (28 years; 65% or CGPA 6.84/10; course finished in time).
  • You are comfortable with Regular Government Service that is transferable across ISRO / Department of Space centres.
  • You can arrange degree, photo/sign, category/PwBD papers and NOC before the interview.
  • You are prepared for the CBT Part A + interview, not a GATE shortlist.
  • You understand posting can be Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Sriharikota, Mahendragiri, Hassan or PRL, not a city of your choice.
