While IBPS is running a common Specialist Officer cycle across public sector banks, Indian Overseas Bank has opened its own officer drive for 291 Generalist and Specialist posts. What Posts Are Available? – IOB Vacancy & Eligibility 2026

Branch Management alone takes 100 of 291 seats. Manager (IT) adds 65, and the two Credit cadres add 50. Four specialist seats (Information Security, IS Audit and their Senior Manager twins) have little or no Unreserved quota, so reserved-category specialists should treat those rows as realistic targets. Security Officer is a closed stream for JCOs and Inspector-rank police/paramilitary staff.

Vacancies are provisional. The bank may raise or cut numbers.

What Is the Application Fee?

CategoryFee (inclusive of GST)
SC / ST / PwBD₹175 (intimation charges only)
All others including OBC and EWS₹1,000

Pay online by debit card, credit card, net banking, BHIM or UPI from 29 August 2026 to 15 September 2026. The fee is non-refundable and cannot be shifted to another IOB recruitment. A separate fee is due for each post you apply for.

How to Apply?

Applications are accepted only on the IBPS-hosted IOB portal. The careers homepage is not the application form.

  1. Open the IOB Specialist Officer 2026 apply portal (also linked from the IOB careers page under “Recruitment of Generalist / Specialist Officers in Various Scales – 2026-27”).
  2. Click Register Online. Note the Registration Number and Password sent by email and SMS.
  3. Select the exact post code. Fill personal, educational and experience fields so they match your certificates.
  4. Upload photograph, signature, left-thumb impression and handwritten declaration as per Annexure I of the notification. Use our Photo & Signature Resizer before upload.
  5. Pay the fee and generate the e-receipt.
  6. Click Complete Registration only after a full preview. Print the form and e-receipt.

Registration and fee payment both close on 15 September 2026.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Treating an IBPS SO 2026 score as valid here. IOB conducts its own online test.
  • Counting pre-degree or internship months toward “post-qualification” experience. Experience must run after the qualifying exam and up to 01 August 2026.
  • Applying for IS Audit, DBA or Network posts without the named certificate (CISA/CISSP/ISO 27001 LA/OSCP, Oracle OCA/OCP, CCNA/CCSE).
  • Filing two forms for the same post and assuming both will be merged. Only the last submission is kept.
  • Uploading a photo or declaration that fails Annexure I size rules. That form is rejected before the exam.

Why Does Indian Overseas Bank Matter?

Indian Overseas Bank is a public sector bank headquartered at 763, Anna Salai, Chennai, with branches across India and overseas offices. It sits in the public sector banking industry under the Department of Financial Services. Candidates search IOB jobs because the bank hires on IBA officer scales with DA, HRA, leased housing and NPS, and because this cycle mixes a large generalist Branch Management intake with scarce IT and cyber security seats.

The bank’s own SO window also attracts people who missed IBPS SO or want a single-bank posting rather than common allotment. Search interest is high around “IOB vacancy 2026”, “IOB career”, “IOB specialist officer salary” and “IOB SO apply online link”.

The honest downside: first posting can be a non-metro or rural branch, transfers follow bank need, and a three-year indemnity bond makes an early exit expensive. IOB is a mid-sized PSB, not SBI in branch density or brand recall.

The SahisarkariJobs.in Analyst’s Take

Put this notification next to IBPS SO 2026 and the recent Bank of Baroda SO / Indian Bank SO drives, not next to IBPS PO. IBPS SO is a Scale I common exam with a larger but shared vacancy pool and a two-tier test. IOB is hiring mostly Scale II and Scale III officers on a single 100-mark paper plus interview, and it demands scheduled-bank or BFSI experience that IBPS SO Scale I does not. A working Scale I officer who wants a jump into IOB MMGS II is the candidate this advertisement is written for.

Best fit: Branch bankers with two full years of counter-and-credit work; BFSI IT staff who can name a live domain (core, network, DBA, cloud); CAs/CMAs/MBA-Finance officers already doing appraisal; and JCOs targeting the Security cadre.

Skip this if you are a 2025–26 campus pass-out, a teacher or IT employee with no BFSI years, or someone who needs a metro-only first posting. The 100 Branch Management seats look large until you notice every applicant must already be an officer in a scheduled bank.

Practical tip: Map your experience certificates to the exact phrases in the PDF (branch banking, production DBA, IS audit, credit sanction) before you pay ₹1,000. If the wording on your relieving letter does not match, the form will sail through and the interview file will not.

What Documents Are Required?

Carry originals and self-attested copies to the interview. Non-production means the candidature ends there.

  • Printout of the online application and fee e-receipt
  • Photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN, passport, voter ID or driving licence)
  • Date-of-birth proof (Class 10 certificate)
  • All degree / PG / CA / CMA marksheets and convocation certificates
  • Experience certificates stating designation, scale, period and nature of duties
  • Caste / EWS / OBC-NCL / PwBD certificate in the prescribed format, valid as on the cut-off
  • NOC if you are employed in government, PSU or a public sector bank
  • Professional certificates: CISA, CISSP, ISO 27001 LA, OSCP, Oracle OCA/OCP, CCNA, CCSE, GARP FRM, PRMIA, as applicable
  • For Assistant Manager (Security): discharge book, last pay certificate, SHAPE-1 or equivalent medical category, and a clean-service certificate
  • Recent photographs matching the uploaded file

Document alert: OBC candidates must hold a Non-Creamy Layer certificate in the central format. A state OBC certificate without NCL is a frequent rejection reason at bank interviews.

Service Conditions

Probation: 6 months for Manager (Branch Management); 1 year for other Specialist Officer posts; 2 years for Assistant Manager (Security). Confirmation follows Officers’ Service Regulations.

Bond: financial indemnity of ₹2,00,000 for JMGS I and ₹2,50,000 for MMGS II and MMGS III, with a minimum of 3 years of active service. Leaving early usually means paying the bond.

Pay on joining is the scale basic plus DA, HRA or leased accommodation, CCA and bank perquisites. Recruits in public sector banks are covered under NPS, not old pension. Posting is at the bank’s discretion anywhere in India.

What Happens After Selection?

  1. IOB publishes the provisional list on iob.bank.in and issues an offer/joining letter with a reporting date.
  2. You complete document verification and a medical examination as directed in the offer.
  3. You execute the indemnity bond and complete KYC, NPS account and identity formalities at the allotted office.
  4. Branch Management officers typically go through induction and branch attachment. Specialist officers report to the vertical (IT, Credit, Risk, Security) named in the appointment order.
  5. Probation runs for 6 months, 1 year or 2 years by post. Confirmation depends on performance and vigilance clearance.
  6. After confirmation, you stay on the IBA scale with annual increments. Promotion to the next scale follows IOB’s promotion policy and vacancies, not an automatic year-count.

Based on similar single-bank SO drives, expect several months between the online test and joining. Do not resign from your current bank until the written offer is in hand.

FAQs – IOB SO Recruitment 2026

Q1: What is the last date to apply for IOB SO 2026?

A: 15 September 2026. Registration and fee payment both close that day. No extension is announced as of 29 August 2026. Submit at least two days early because the IBPS portal slows down near the deadline.

Q2: What is the age limit for IOB Specialist Officer posts?

A: It depends on the post. Most Manager seats cap UR age at 32–35 years; Senior Manager IT/DBA go up to 38; Security Officer allows 30–45. OBC gets 3 extra years, SC/ST 5, PwBD 10. Age is calculated as on 01 August 2026.

Q3: Is there an exam for IOB SO, or is it interview-based?

A: Yes, there is an online exam of 100 marks in 2 hours, then an interview of 100 marks. Final merit is 80% exam and 20% interview. Negative marking is one-fourth for wrong answers.

Q4: What is the salary of an IOB Specialist Officer?

A: Around ₹75,000–85,000 per month in-hand in a metro for MMGS II, and about ₹95,000–1,10,000 for MMGS III, on IBA basics of ₹64,820 and ₹85,920 plus DA and HRA. JMGS I Security starts lower, near ₹55,000–65,000.

Q5: Can final-year students or result-awaited candidates apply for IOB 2026?

A: No. Qualification and the required years of post-qualification experience must stand as on 01 August 2026. A degree expected after that date does not meet the cut-off.

Q6: Is IOB SO a permanent government job?

A: Yes. These are regular officer posts in a public sector bank on IBA scales, with NPS and a probation that leads to confirmation. They are not contractual or apprentice seats. A three-year bond still applies after joining.

Q7: Can candidates from other states apply for IOB recruitment?

A: Yes. This is an all-India drive. No Tamil Nadu domicile is required even though the Central Office is in Chennai. Indian citizens (and the notified Nepal/Bhutan/Tibetan/PIO categories) can apply.

Q8: Where will I be posted if I get selected for IOB SO?

A: Anywhere in India, including rural and semi-urban branches. You do not choose the first station. Later transfers follow bank policy and vacancies.

Q9: Is IOB SO a better option than IBPS SO?

A: It depends on your scale and experience. IBPS SO is mainly Scale I and uses a common exam. IOB is hiring largely Scale II and III officers who already work in scheduled banks or BFSI IT. Freshers who can sit for IBPS SO will not clear IOB’s experience filter.

Q10: Is there a bond period for IOB officers?

A: Yes. JMGS I officers sign ₹2,00,000, and MMGS II/III officers sign ₹2,50,000, each with three years of active service. Resigning within that window usually means paying the bond amount.

Q11: How much do credit officers earn in public sector banks?

A: A Scale II credit officer on the IBA starting salary of ₹64,820 typically takes home about ₹75,000–85,000 in a metro after DA, HRA and NPS. Scale III credit starts near ₹95,000–1,10,000. Private-bank CTC can look higher on paper, but PSB allowances and job security differ.

Q12: What are the disadvantages of joining as a specialist officer in a public sector bank?

A: Worth knowing before you apply: you can be moved out of the specialist vertical into general banking if the bank needs it, first postings are often outside your home state, and the three-year bond limits an early jump to another bank.

Q13: Do public sector bank officers still get pension?

A: New officer recruits are covered under NPS, not the old defined pension. The bank contributes to NPS along with your deduction. Gratuity and leave encashment follow IBA rules after qualifying service.

Final Checklist – Is This the Right Job for You?

  • You meet the age and educational criteria as on 01 August 2026.
  • Your post-qualification experience matches the exact domain and years for the post code.
  • You can produce mandatory certificates (CISA, OCA/OCP, CCNA/CCSE, FRM) where the PDF names them.
  • You are comfortable with Regular Government Service, all-India posting and a 3-year bond.
  • You can arrange originals for document verification at the interview.
  • You are prepared for the online professional-knowledge paper, which carries most of the merit.
