KEA Karnataka Principal Recruitment 2026 notice for 247 Government PU College posts

Vacancies: 247 · Posts: Principal (1 designation, 2 cadres) · Type: Regular Government Service · Mode: Online · Fee: ₹1,500 / ₹1,000 / ₹500 · Apply: 07 September 2026–04 October 2026 · Salary: ₹90,200–1,59,200 · Selection: 3-paper competitive exam + document verification · Location: Karnataka (RPC statewide / KK local cadre)

Karnataka Examinations Authority, Bengaluru, has opened a Group-A Principal channel that only serving Government Pre-University Lecturers can use. The School Education Department (Pre-University Education), Government of Karnataka, will fill 247 Principal posts in Government PU Colleges through a competitive examination, not through an open-market drive.

Applications open on 07 September 2026 and close on 04 October 2026 on cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea. Fee payment remains open till 05 October 2026. Pay starts at ₹90,200 on the 2024 revised Karnataka State scale.

This is a closed cadre exam. Private-college teachers, aided-college staff and degree-college lecturers outside the Government PU Lecturer cadre cannot apply. If you have already completed 10 years as a Government PU Lecturer and have finished probation, this is the notification that converts classroom seniority into college headship.

What Posts Are Available? – KEA Vacancy & Eligibility 2026

Both notifications recruit the same designation. The split that matters is cadre, not job title. KK posts are local-cadre seats under Article 371J. RPC posts cover the Residual Parent Cadre.

Interpretation: 216 of 247 seats sit in RPC, so most eligible Lecturers will compete in the larger pool. The 31 KK seats are a smaller, region-locked list. Apply only in the cadre that matches your service records. One designation, two closed lists.

Who Is Eligible?

Eligibility is service-based, not degree-shopping.

  1. You must be working in the Lecturer cadre of Government Pre-University Colleges under the School Education Department (Pre-University), Karnataka.
  2. You must have completed at least 10 years in that Lecturer cadre.
  3. You must have satisfactorily completed probation in the Lecturer post.
  4. Prescribed educational and service qualifications must be held on or before 04 October 2026.

If you sit the exam without that status, KEA can cancel the candidature at any later stage. Use our Experience Calculator to count 10 years up to the last date.

Serving employees should keep NOC / permission ready for document verification or joining. The notice does not say you must upload NOC before applying.

What Is the Age Limit?

No upper age limit is prescribed. The pool is limited to serving Government PU Lecturers, so calendar age is not the filter. Service length is.

Examples:

✅ A Lecturer who completes 10 years in cadre and probation on or before 04 October 2026 — eligible on service, regardless of age.
❌ A Lecturer with 9 years 11 months in cadre on 04 October 2026 — not eligible (short of the 10-year rule).

Use our Age Eligibility Calculator if you still need a dated age print for your service book. Age is not the rejecting factor here; incomplete service is.

What Is the Principal Salary in Karnataka?

Principals are placed on the 2024 revised Karnataka State pay scale: ₹90,200–2,300–99,400–2,700–1,15,600–3,100–1,34,200–3,500–1,55,200–4,000–1,59,200.

ComponentIndicative figure
Starting basic₹90,200
DAAs per current Government of Karnataka orders on the 2024 scale
HRACity-class rate of the posting town (Bengaluru higher than most district HQs)
Other allowancesAs admissible to Group-A state education officers
Pension / NPSAs per the rules that applied when you were first appointed as Lecturer

In-hand (indicative): about ₹1.10 lakh to ₹1.30 lakh per month at the start, depending on DA, HRA city class and whether you are under NPS or the older pension rules. Gross is basic + DA + HRA + allowances. Net is lower after NPS (if applicable), professional tax and income tax.

This is an estimate from the notified starting basic, not an official payslip. Actual take-home is fixed in the appointment order. Given the pay band, tax will usually apply; check our Income Tax Calculator against your other income.

Pension follows the rules of your original Lecturer appointment. OPS Lecturers do not automatically move to NPS only because they become Principal.

What Is the Application Fee?

Fee is paid online only. It is not refunded.

CategoryFee
General Merit, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B₹1,500
SC, ST, Category-1, Ex-servicemen, Third Gender₹1,000
Persons with Disabilities₹500

Last date to pay: 05 October 2026. Submitting the form on 04 October without paying by 05 October leaves the application incomplete.

How to Apply?

Applications are accepted only online on the Karnataka Examinations Authority portal. There is no Speed Post or counter submission for this cycle.

  1. Open the KEA official portal from 07 September 2026.
  2. Choose the correct notification: RPC (216 posts) or KK (31 posts). Do not apply in the other cadre by guesswork.
  3. Register with your own mobile number and email. KEA will send the application number and later exam alerts there.
  4. Fill in service details exactly as in your service book: cadre, date of appointment as Lecturer, probation completion date, and present college.
  5. Upload photo and signature in the size the form asks for. Use our Photo & Signature Resizer before you upload.
  6. Pay the fee online and save the receipt.
  7. Download the final printout. You cannot change the submitted form later.

The online apply button is scheduled to open on 07 September 2026. Until then, use the same KEA page to read both PDFs.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Applying on the wrong cadre form (RPC vs KK). Category and local status must match the PDF you pick.
  • Counting college teaching outside the Government PU Lecturer cadre toward the 10 years.
  • Uploading a photo that fails KEA’s pixel/size check and discovering it after the edit window is gone. The notice says the submitted form cannot be edited.
  • Paying after 05 October 2026, or assuming the 04 October form date covers fee as well.
  • Treating this as an open recruitment and circulating the link to non-Lecturer relatives. Their fee will not be refunded if rejected.

How Are Candidates Selected?

KEA will conduct a competitive examination in online CBT or offline OMR mode. Paper dates will appear later on the KEA website. Exam centre, once allotted, cannot be changed.

PaperSubjectQuestionsMarksDurationNature
Paper 1Kannada language (comprehension, usage, composition, grammar, official Kannada)1501503 hoursQualifying only. Minimum 50 marks. Not added to merit. SSLC first-language Kannada holders are treated as prescribed in the 1997 Gazette rule cited in the notice
Paper 2General Studies (history & heritage of India and Karnataka, polity, economy, Constitution, public administration, S&T, environment, ethics, integrity, aptitude)1501503 hoursCounts for merit. Detailed Paper-2 syllabus to be published separately
Paper 3Karnataka Civil Services Rules, KCS (CCA) Rules 1957, Conduct Rules, Karnataka Treasury Code, Karnataka Financial Code, recruitment rules, Karnataka Education Act 1983, educational psychology and allied topics1501503 hoursCounts for merit

Stage 1 — Kannada qualifying paper. Failing Paper 1 and Papers 2–3 do not save you.

Stage 2 — Merit from Papers 2 and 3. Only these two papers make the rank list.

Stage 3 — Document verification. Service book, cadre proof, probation order, caste/rural/Kannada-medium/PwBD certificates and identity documents are checked against the form.

Stage 4 — Appointment and posting. Department of School Education issues a posting to a Government PU College in the cadre you competed in.

No interview stage is mentioned in the pages of the current notification. Selection is based on written-exam merit plus document verification and cadre rules. Carry one original photo ID (Aadhaar / voter card / driving licence/passport/government ID) to the centre. Admit cards come only from the KEA website.

Negative-marking arithmetic, if any, is printed in the detailed exam instructions of the official PDFs. Do not assume a bank-exam formula until you read that line.

Why Does Karnataka Examinations Authority Matter?

Karnataka Examinations Authority is the state body in Bengaluru that runs competitive recruitment tests for multiple Karnataka departments, besides CET-type admissions. For this drive it acts only as the exam agency. The employer is the Department of School Education (Pre-University) under the Government of Karnataka.

Government PU Colleges sit in the school and pre-university education pipeline that feeds every degree college in the state. A Principal here runs staff, timetable, board exam conduct, admissions and campus discipline. That is why the test loads Paper 3 with KCSR, financial codes and the Karnataka Education Act 1983 rather than only subject pedagogy.

Candidates search this page because “KEA Principal recruitment”, “PU College Principal Karnataka ನೇಮಕಾತಿ” and “Government Lecturer to Principal” are the exact career step after a decade in the Lecturer grade. The honest limit is the closed door: if you are not already inside that cadre, KEA will not open a side entrance.

The SahisarkariJobs.in Analyst’s Take

Compare this with waiting for a pure seniority promotion to Principal, or with the Department of Collegiate Education’s earlier Government First Grade College Principal (UG) drives. Those degree-college seats sit in a different department. This KEA paper is the PU track. KPSC education-officer-style exams also look similar on paper, but they are open competitive posts. Here the competitor sitting next to you is another Government PU Lecturer, not a fresher with a B.Ed.

Best fit: Lecturers who already run some college administration (exam in-charge, IQAC, admission committee) and can revise KCSR plus the Education Act without starting from zero. The 247-seat size is large enough that a well-prepared mid-career Lecturer is not fighting a two-digit vacancy.

Who should skip: Anyone still short of 10 years or probation; anyone who wants a Bengaluru-only posting in writing (the notice does not promise city choice); and anyone treating Paper 1 Kannada as optional. Fifty marks in Kannada is a hard gate.

Practical tip: Pull your service-book dates this week and compute 10 years to 04 October 2026, not to the exam day. Then start Paper 3 from KCSR and the Karnataka Education Act 1983. Paper 2 current affairs can wait until KEA publishes the detailed syllabus.

What Documents Are Required?

Keep scanned copies of the form and originals for verification.

  • Final printout of the KEA online application and fee receipt
  • Service book extract/appointment order as Lecturer in a Government PU College
  • Probation-declaration order
  • Proof of 10 years in the Lecturer cadre (date calculation up to 04 October 2026)
  • Educational certificates prescribed for the Lecturer cadre
  • Caste / Category-1 / 2A / 2B / 3A / 3B certificate in the Karnataka format, if claimed
  • Rural, Kannada-medium, Ex-servicemen, PwBD or transgender certificate, if claimed
  • KK local-cadre documents if applying under the 31-post notice
  • Identity proof and recent photographs matching the upload
  • NOC / departmental permission to produce when asked

Document alert: A caste or rural certificate issued for a different purpose, or a service certificate that does not say “Lecturer cadre, Government PU College”, is the usual rejection at DV.

What Happens After Selection?

  1. KEA publishes Paper 1 qualifying status and the Paper 2 + Paper 3 merit list on its website.
  2. Shortlisted candidates attend document verification with the service book and reservation proofs.
  3. The School Education Department (PU) issues appointment as Principal on the ₹90,200–1,59,200 scale.
  4. You are posted to a Government PU College in the cadre you applied under. KK appointees stay within Kalyana Karnataka.
  5. Joining formalities follow state education rules: charge report, property statement, and any training the department notifies.
  6. Pension / NPS continues on the basis of your original Lecturer appointment. Confirmation and further movement (Deputy Director and similar education-administration grades) follow departmental seniority and later departmental tests.

From application to joining in similar KEA departmental exams often runs several months because the exam date itself is still open. Plan the 2026–27 academic year around that lag.

Posting is college-head work: staff supervision, PU Board exam conduct, admissions, and accounts. It is not a lighter version of Lecturer duty.

FAQs – KEA Principal Recruitment 2026

What is the last date to apply for KEA Principal 2026?

04 October 2026 for the online form. The fee can be paid till 05 October 2026. No extension is announced as of 05 September 2026. Late forms are not accepted on the portal.

What is the age limit for KEA Principal?

There is no upper age limit in this notification. You must be a serving Government PU Lecturer with 10 years in cadre and have completed probation on 04 October 2026. Age relaxation tables do not apply because no maximum age is fixed.

Is there an exam for KEA Principal, or is it interview-based?

Yes. KEA conducts three papers in CBT or OMR mode. Paper 1 Kannada is qualifying with 50 marks. Papers 2 and 3 make the merit list. No interview stage is mentioned in the current notice. Document verification follows the merit list.

What is the salary of a Government PU College Principal in Karnataka?

Starting basic is ₹90,200 on the 2024 revised state scale, rising to ₹1,59,200. Indicative in-hand at the start is about ₹1.10–1.30 lakh, depending on DA, HRA city and NPS. Allowances follow Government of Karnataka rules.

Can final-year students or result-awaited candidates apply for this recruitment?

No. This is not a campus or fresher intake. Only serving Lecturers who already hold the prescribed qualification and 10-year service on 04 October 2026 can apply. A degree obtained after that date does not help.

Is KEA Principal a permanent government job?

Yes. It is regular Group-A state service as Principal of a Government PU College. Pension or NPS follows the rules of your original Lecturer appointment. It is not a contractual or honorarium post.

Can candidates from other states apply for KEA Principal recruitment?

No. You must already be a Lecturer in a Government Pre-University College under Karnataka’s School Education Department. An other-state teacher cannot enter this list by domicile papers alone.

Where will I be posted if selected as Principal?

In a Government PU College in Karnataka. KK-cadre selectees are posted inside Kalyana Karnataka. RPC-cadre posting is anywhere in the Residual Parent Cadre. The notice does not give a home-district choice form.

Do I need to apply separately for RPC and KK posts?

Yes, they are two notifications. Use the cadre that matches your service and local status. Filing the other cadre’s form does not move your name across lists. Read both PDFs before you pay.

Is Kannada compulsory for this Principal exam?

Yes. Paper 1 is a 150-mark Kannada language paper. You need at least 50 marks. Those marks are not added to merit, but failing Paper 1 ends the attempt. SSLC first-language Kannada has a specified exemption path in the notice.

What are the disadvantages of becoming a PU College Principal?

Here’s the catch: you leave a subject Lecturer timetable for full college administration, Board exam duty and staff management, and posting is not guaranteed in your present town. The closed exam also means you compete with the same peer group you already know.

How much do Principals earn in Karnataka government PU colleges?

On this scale, basic starts at ₹90,200. With DA and HRA, many Principals will see a six-figure monthly gross. Net depends on city HRA and whether NPS is deducted. It is higher than Lecturer pay on the same 2024 revision, which is the point of the move.

Is a government PU Principal post better than staying as Lecturer?

It depends on whether you want administration. Pay and status rise. Daily work shifts from teaching one subject to running the college. If you want only classroom work, the promotion will feel like a different job, not a higher version of the same one.

Final Checklist – Is This the Right Job for You?

  • You are a serving Lecturer in a Government PU College under Karnataka School Education (PU), not in a private or degree-college cadre.
  • You complete 10 years in the Lecturer cadre and probation on or before 04 October 2026.
  • You will apply on the correct cadre form (RPC or KK) from 07 September 2026.
  • You can pay the fee by 05 October 2026 and accept that the submitted form cannot be edited.
  • You can prepare Kannada Paper 1 plus KCSR / Education Act Paper 3, and you will accept posting as college Principal, not as a Lecturer with a new designation.
