Karnataka Examinations Authority, Bengaluru, is recruiting 140 Residential School Teachers (ವಸತಿ ಶಾಲಾ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು / Vasati Shala Shikshakaru) for the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Karnataka. Two cadre-wise notifications dated 20 August 2026 cover the Residual Parent Cadre (100 posts) and Kalyana Karnataka local cadre (40 posts).
This drive sits in Karnataka’s social-welfare residential education system, not the larger School Education or KREIS subject-teacher windows. Postings are in Social Welfare Department residential schools across the state.
Online applications opened on 21 August 2026 on the KEA SWRT portal. The last date to submit the form is 18 September 2026. Fee can be paid till 19 September 2026. Selection is through a two-paper competitive exam (CBT or OMR), a qualifying Kannada language test where applicable, and document verification. No interview stage is mentioned in the current notification.

What Posts Are Available? – KEA Vacancy & Eligibility 2026
Both advertisements recruit the same designation. The split is by cadre, not by subject.
Kalyana Karnataka (KK) seats are the smaller but strategically important block for local-cadre candidates under Article 371J-linked recruitment practice. Residual Parent Cadre (RPC) is the larger statewide pool. Category-wise UR / SC / ST / Cat-1 / 2A / 2B / 3A / 3B / PwD numbers are not published in the current notices. KEA may revise the number of posts and reservation distribution before the exam.
| Cadre | Notification No. | Vacancies | Qualification | Pay scale |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Residual Parent Cadre (RPC) | ED/KEA/38/RC/2026(RPC) | 100 | PUC 50% (45% reserved/PwD) + D.El.Ed / B.El.Ed / D.Ed (Special Education) + TET | ₹41,300–81,800 |
| Kalyana Karnataka local cadre (KK) | ED/KEA/39/RC/2026(KK) | 40 | Same as above, plus KK local-cadre conditions | ₹41,300–81,800 |
| Total | 140 |
Note: This is an elementary / residential-school teacher post. It is not the KEA–KREIS subject-teacher drive (Kannada, English, Maths, Science and so on) that used graduation + B.Ed.
✅ Confirmed: 140 posts, two cadres, PUC + elementary-teacher diploma/degree + TET, state pay scale ₹41,300–81,800.
❓ Not specified: post-wise subject split, school-wise posting list, and category-wise vacancy matrix.
Eligibility in plain language
You need all three:
- PUC / 12th with 50% marks ( 45% if SC, ST, Category-1 or PwD).
- One of: 2-year D.El.Ed, 4-year B.El.Ed, or 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education) from a recognised board or university.
- TET passed, conducted by the Government of Karnataka or the Government of India.
Certificates must exist by 18 September 2026. If your result comes after that date, do not apply.
Use our Percentage Calculator if you need to convert PUC marks. Use the conversion method in your marksheet; the official formula prevails.
What Is the Age Limit?
Age is counted on 18 September 2026.
| Category | Minimum | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| General Merit (GM) | 18 years | 40 years |
| Category 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B | 18 years | 43 years |
| SC / ST / Category-1 | 18 years | 45 years |
Further relaxation may apply under the Karnataka Civil Services (General Recruitment) Rules, 1977, as amended, for government employees, ex-servicemen, PwD and widows. Adda-linked reading of the Kannada notice also refers to an extra 5-year window under a government order dated 29 January 2026 that cannot be claimed a second time. Confirm that clause from the cadre PDF before you rely on it.
Examples:
✅ A 39-year-old GM candidate born on 19 September 1986 — eligible (within the 40-year limit as on 18 September 2026).
❌ A 41-year-old GM candidate born on 18 September 1985 — not eligible (exceeds the maximum age by 1 year).
Use our Age Eligibility Calculator to check instantly.
What Is the Residential School Teacher Salary in Karnataka?
The notification places the post on the 2024 revised Karnataka State Pay Scale ₹41,300–81,800. This is a state PRC scale, not a central 7th CPC matrix.
Appointees serve a 2-year probation. Pension contribution is under the National Pension System (NPS).
| Component | Indicative figure (starting) |
|---|---|
| Basic pay | ₹41,300 |
| DA | 15.75% of basic from 01 January 2026 (Finance Department revision) ≈ ₹6,505 |
| HRA | As per Karnataka city class (commonly higher in BBMP / corporation cities, lower in smaller towns) |
| Gross (indicative) | About ₹52,000–₹58,000 depending on HRA station |
| Deductions | NPS (typically 10% of basic + DA) + professional tax / other statutory cuts |
| In-hand (indicative) | ₹46,000–₹56,000 per month |
₹46,000–₹56,000/month is an estimate from basic ₹41,300 + DA 15.75% + station HRA, minus NPS. It is not an official salary slip. Actual take-home depends on posting town, current DA order and deductions. Use our NPS Pension Calculator to see how the contribution builds over service.
Hostel duty is part of residential-school life. Any hostel or mess facility for staff should be treated as subject to department rules, not as a guaranteed perk.
What Is the Application Fee?
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General Merit and Category 2A / 2B / 3A / 3B | ₹750 (₹500 application + ₹250 processing) |
| SC / ST / Category-1 / Ex-servicemen / Third gender | ₹500 (₹250 application + ₹250 processing) |
| Special Chetana (PwD) | ₹250 (processing fee only) |
Pay only online through the SWRT application portal. The fee is non-refundable. Application closing and fee closing are on different dates: form by 18 September 2026, payment by 19 September 2026.
How to Apply?
Applications are accepted only online on the dedicated SWRT 2026 portal. Do not email a bio-data or visit a school office with a paper form.
- Open the KEA SWRT 2026 login and registration page (portal live from 21 August 2026).
- Register with your own mobile number and email. KEA sends the registration number and password there.
- Log in and fill in personal, educational, TET, cadre (RPC or KK) and reservation details exactly as on certificates.
- Upload a recent passport-size photograph (JPEG, white background, typically 50–200 KB) and signature (JPEG, typically 50–70 KB). Resize files with our Photo & Signature Resizer before upload.
- Preview every field. Corrections after final submission are generally not allowed.
- Pay the fee online and download the acknowledgement. Keep the application number.
If the SWRT login page is busy, start from the KEA home recruitment page and open the Social Welfare / SWRT 2026 tile.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Picking the wrong cadre. KK and RPC are separate notifications. A non-KK candidate applying only under KK, or a KK candidate skipping the cadre they actually qualify for, risks rejection at DV.
- Treating B.Ed as enough. This advertisement asks for D.El.Ed / B.El.Ed / Special Education diploma plus TET. A B.Ed without the elementary path listed above does not automatically fit.
- Uploading TET as “result awaited”. TET must already be passed, with a certificate you can produce.
- Paying after 19 September 2026. A submitted form without fee by the fee date is incomplete.
- Using a friend’s email or a cyber-cafe number. Admit card and exam alerts go to the registered mobile and email.

How Are Residential School Teachers Selected?
Selection is a sequence of stages, not a single exam score that becomes an appointment letter.
- Online application scrutiny against the advertised rules
- Competitive written examination conducted by KEA (CBT or OMR)
- Qualifying Kannada language test, unless exempt
- Document verification
- Medical fitness/department joining formalities
- Appointment on 2-year probation
No interview stage is mentioned in the current notification. Selection is based on written-exam merit (after the Kannada qualifier) plus document verification.
Written exam pattern
| Paper | Content | Questions | Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paper-1 | Current affairs and everyday GK; school-level Indian Constitution; Indian history with Karnataka focus; Indian geography with Karnataka focus; state and regional economics; Panchayat Raj and rural cooperatives; Karnataka development schemes; environment and development issues in Karnataka | 100 | 100 | 2 hours |
| Paper-2 | General Kannada, General English, Computer Knowledge | 100 | 100 | 2 hours |
- Minimum 35% aggregate required. Below that, the candidate is out.
- Negative marking: 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
- Exam date and mode (online CBT or offline OMR) will be published on the KEA website.
Kannada language test
| Item | Rule |
|---|---|
| Maximum marks | 150 |
| Qualifying mark | 50 |
| Counted in merit? | No |
| Exempt | Candidates who studied Kannada up to SSLC in Karnataka, or who have already passed a recognised Kannada test |
| Fail / absent | Disqualified |
Prepare Paper-1 as a Karnataka-centric GK paper, not a generic all-India GS dump. Paper-2 rewards working Kannada, functional English and basic computer use.
Why Does the Karnataka Social Welfare Department Matter?
The Department of Social Welfare, Government of Karnataka runs hostels, scholarships and residential schools aimed mainly at Scheduled Caste children in the early classes, with a smaller share for ST and other groups. Department figures list dozens of residential schools with sanctioned strength in the thousands. Teaching here is classroom work plus campus supervision in a hostel setting.
KEA is only the exam agency. Your employer after selection is the Social Welfare Department, not KEA. Related pages on this site: Karnataka government jobs and education-sector recruitments.
Candidates search this notification because SWD residential schools offer a regular state-government teaching post with a defined pay scale, and because the 40 KK seats matter in the Hyderabad-Karnataka districts. They also search because TET-plus-D.El.Ed holders were watching the 15,000-post School Education window and the 1,087-post KREIS window and still need a primary-teacher route.
One downside: residential duty is not a 9-to-4 classroom job. Evening hostel presence, weekend campus responsibility and rural or semi-urban postings are normal. If you want only a day-school timetable in a metro neighbourhood, this employer will feel hard.
The SahisarkariJobs.in Analyst’s Take
Put this notice next to the two tabs most D.El.Ed candidates already have open: the School Education Department’s 15,000-post GPT / PST / AM drive and the KEA–KREIS 1,087 subject-teacher drive. School Education is the volume play for ordinary government schools. KREIS pays on a higher ₹54,175–99,400 band but wants graduation + B.Ed and subject specialisation. This SWD window is smaller (140) and pitched at PUC + elementary-teacher training + TET, with campus life inside Social Welfare residential schools.
Best fit: TET-qualified D.El.Ed or B.El.Ed candidates who can live on a residential campus and who, if they are from Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal or Ballari belt, will treat the 40 KK seats as a real local-cadre shot. It also suits special-education diploma holders who otherwise get ignored in generic teacher ads.
Who should walk past this one: Graduates hunting high-school subject posts; anyone without TET; candidates who will not accept hostel-linked duty; applicants who cannot document cadre eligibility for KK if that is the only form they plan to file.
Practical tip: Decide RPC vs KK before you register, keep TET and PUC marksheets scanned at the required size, and treat Paper-1 as Karnataka school-level social studies rather than UPSC-style GS. Wrong cadre plus a weak Kannada qualifier is how otherwise eligible teachers drop out after paying ₹750.
What Documents Are Required for Karnataka Govt Jobs?
Keep originals and clear scans ready. KEA will call only shortlisted candidates for verification, but the application already needs accurate certificate data.
- SSLC / 10th marks card (date of birth)
- PUC / 12th marks card (50% or 45% claim)
- D.El.Ed or B.El.Ed or Special Education diploma certificate and marks cards
- TET pass certificate (Karnataka TET or CTET)
- Caste / Category-1 / 2A / 2B / 3A / 3B certificate in the prescribed Karnataka format, if claiming reservation
- Income / creamy-layer document if required for your category
- Kalyana Karnataka local-cadre proof, if applying under KK
- PwD / Special Chetana certificate, if applicable
- Ex-servicemen discharge book, if applicable
- Third-gender certificate, if applicable
- Aadhaar and recent photograph
- Application printout and fee receipt
Document alert: Reservation certificates must match the category you ticked. A GM application that later produces a reserved-category certificate, or a KK form without local proof, is a classic DV rejection.
Service Conditions
- Nature of appointment: regular state-government recruitment to Social Welfare residential schools, after KEA merit and department joining
- Probation: 2 years
- Pension: NPS (not old pension)
- Posting: allotted school in Karnataka; KK cadre postings stay within the Kalyana Karnataka framework
- Transfer and hostel duty: as per Social Welfare Department rules
- Bond/service agreement: not spelt out as a money bond in the summarised notice; follow the appointment order
What Happens After Selection?
- KEA publishes the written-exam result and a cadre-wise merit list of candidates who also cleared the Kannada qualifier (or were exempt).
- You download the call letter and attend document verification with originals.
- The Social Welfare Department issues the appointment order to a specific residential school.
- You join, complete medical / character verification if still pending, and start a 2-year probation on ₹41,300 basic plus admissible allowances.
- NPS account is opened; monthly contribution is cut from salary.
- Confirmation depends on satisfactory probation, not on the exam rank alone. After confirmation, increments move you up the ₹41,300–81,800 scale.
From application to joining, similar KEA state drives often take several months because the exam, Kannada test and DV run in sequence. Do not resign from another job on the last date of application.

FAQs – KEA SWRT Teacher 2026
Q1: What is the last date to apply for KEA Residential School Teacher 2026?
A: 18 September 2026 for the online form. Fee payment is allowed till 19 September 2026. No extension has been announced as of 26 August 2026. Late forms are not accepted.
Q2: What is the age limit for KEA Residential School Teacher?
A: 18 to 40 years for General Merit as of 18 September 2026. Category 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B go up to 43. SC, ST and Category-1 go up to 45. Extra relaxation follows Karnataka recruitment rules where applicable.
Q3: Is there an exam for this post, or is it interview-based?
A: Yes, there is a written exam. KEA conducts two papers of 100 marks each, then a qualifying Kannada test unless you are exempt. No interview stage is mentioned. Document verification follows merit.
Q4: What is the salary of a Social Welfare residential school teacher in Karnataka?
A: The scale is ₹41,300–81,800. Indicative in-hand at the start is about ₹46,000–₹56,000 after DA at 15.75% and HRA, minus NPS. Exact take-home depends on the posting town.
Q5: Can final-year students or result-awaited candidates apply for this recruitment?
A: No. PUC, D.El.Ed / B.El.Ed / Special Education diploma and TET certificates must be in hand by 18 September 2026. Results declared after that date are not accepted.
Q6: Is KEA SWRT Teacher a permanent government job?
A: Yes, it is regular state-government recruitment with 2-year probation and NPS. It is not guest-teacher or honorarium work. Confirmation comes only after probation.
Q7: Can candidates from other states apply?
A: Indian citizens may apply, but KK’s 40 posts follow Kalyana Karnataka local-cadre rules. RPC is the residual statewide cadre. Read the cadre PDF before paying the fee if you are not a Karnataka local candidate.
Q8: Where will I be posted if selected?
A: In a Social Welfare Department residential school in Karnataka. KK selectees stay within the KK cadre area. First posting is by vacancy and merit, not by a city-preference form mentioned in this notice.
Q9: Is Karnataka domicile required for Social Welfare residential teacher posts?
A: The notice requires Indian citizenship. KK posts additionally follow local-cadre conditions for Kalyana Karnataka. RPC is the rest-of-state cadre. Carry domicile or local certificate for School Tes if you claim KK or reservation.
Q10: Is there negative marking in this exam?
A: Yes. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks. There is also a 35% aggregate floor on the two written papers. Guessing every question is a poor plan.
Q11: What are the disadvantages of working as a residential school teacher?
A: The honest downside is campus duty. You teach and also live with hostel routines, which can mean evenings and weekends on campus, often outside Bengaluru. Pay is a solid state scale, but lifestyle is not a day-school city posting.
Q12: How much do residential school teachers earn in Karnataka?
A: On this SWD scale, starting in-hand is typically in the mid-₹40,000s to mid-₹50,000s after DA and HRA. KREIS graduate subject teachers are advertised on a higher ₹54,175–99,400 band. Compare the two before you choose which exam to prioritise.
Q13: Can I apply without TET for Karnataka government teacher jobs?
A: No, for this notification. Karnataka TET or CTET is mandatory along with the elementary-teacher qualification. A PUC-plus-diploma file without TET will not survive scrutiny.
Final Checklist – Is This the Right Job for You?
- You meet age and education rules as on 18 September 2026.
- You already have TET plus D.El.Ed / B.El.Ed / Special Education diploma, not Tplan to finish them later.
- You have chosen the correct cadre (RPC or KK) and can prove it.
- You accept Regular Government Service with 2-year probation, NPS and residential-school duty in Karnataka.
- You can sit a two-paper exam with 0.25 negative marking and, if required, a qualifying Kannada test.
- Documents and photo/signature files are ready before 18 September 2026.
