Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board has opened one of the largest Group-D entry windows in the Union Territory this year: 2,863 Class-IV (MTS) and Sanitation Worker posts under Advertisement Notification No. 09 of 2026, dated 01 September 2026. These are regular government posts across UT, Divisional and District cadres in departments under the Government of Jammu & Kashmir.
The catch that decides eligibility is built into the rules. Class-IV (MTS) needs Matric as the minimum and 10+2 as the maximum. Sanitation Worker needs Class 8 as the minimum and 10+2 as the maximum. A graduate who treats this as “any 10th-pass job” will be rejected.
Online applications open on 05 October 2026 and close on 03 November 2026. Age is reckoned as on 01 January 2026. Only J&K domicile holders with a valid domicile certificate dated on or before 03 November 2026 can apply. Selection is a written objective test plus extra marks under S.O. 184 of 2020, then document verification. No interview stage is mentioned in this advertisement.

What Posts Are Available? – JKSSB Vacancy & Eligibility 2026
JKSSB is filling 2,863 Class-IV seats under one advertisement. Most posts sit in the Divisional Cadre (1,990). District Cadre has 768 posts spread across 20 districts. UT Cadre has only 105 posts, so all-UT mobility is the smallest slice.

Item-wise department rows (Agriculture Production, Horticulture, Sericulture, Animal/Sheep Husbandry, ARI & Trainings, Culture, Estates, Higher Education, Public Works (R&B), Transport, Home and others) are printed in Annexure-A of Advt. 09 of 2026. Cadre and department allotment is merit-cum-preference, not a free choice after joining.

What Is the Class-IV MTS Salary in Jammu & Kashmir?
Both designations are in SL-1: ₹14,800–₹47,100 of the J&K pay matrix.
Indicative starting take-home (not an official slip):
| Component | Approx. amount (Y-class city such as Jammu / Srinagar) |
|---|---|
| Basic pay | ₹14,800 |
| DA (~55% of basic, current central/state DA band used for estimate) | ~₹8,140 |
| HRA (20% in Y-class; 10% in most other towns) | ~₹1,480–₹2,960 |
| Transport / other allowances | As admissible |
| Gross (illustrative) | ~₹26,000–₹29,000 |
| NPS (10% of basic + DA) + usual deductions | ~₹2,300–₹3,000 |
| Indicative in-hand | ~₹22,000–₹26,000 / month |
This is an estimate based on SL-1 basic plus current DA/HRA practice. Actual pay depends on the DA order, posting town and deductions. Verify from the appointment order. Use the 7th CPC Salary Calculator for an indicative worksheet. This calculator provides an indicative estimate. Use the conversion method specified in the notification — the official formula prevails.
NPS applies on joining as a regular government employee. Check long-term pension impact with the NPS Pension Calculator.
What Is the Application Fee?
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| OM / OBC / ALC/IB / RBA and other unreserved-fee candidates | ₹600 |
| SC / ST-1 / ST-2 / EWS / PwBD | ₹500 |
Pay only online (Net Banking, Credit Card or Debit Card). Applications without fee are rejected. Fee once paid is not refunded and is not adjusted against another exam. Excess-payment disputes go through the Board grievance channel.
How to Apply?
Applications are online only through the JKSSB portal. No hard copy is to be posted to the Board at the application stage.
- From 05 October 2026, open the JKSSB What’s New/recruitment page and select Advertisement Notification No. 09 of 2026.
- Register with your name, mobile number and email, then log in.
- Fill personal, educational, domicile, category and preference details. Choose cadre/department preferences carefully; allotment is merit-cum-preference.
- Upload photograph and signature in the portal size. Use our Photo & Signature Resizer before upload.
- Pay ₹600 or ₹500 online and wait for a success receipt.
- Submit the form and download the application PDF plus fee receipt.
- In-service candidates must later send a print-out through proper channel by the document-verification date. Do not post the form to JKSSB now.
The application window is 05 October 2026 to 03 November 2026. The portal often slows on the last evening. Do not wait until 03 November.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Applying with a graduation or higher certificate as your highest qualification. Maximum education for these posts is 10+2.
- Uploading a domicile issued after 03 November 2026, or skipping domicile because you “live in J&K.”
- Claiming “no government job in family” when a parent, spouse or sibling is in government service. Family here means spouse, siblings and parents only.
- Claiming casual-worker marks without 5 years’ wage proof countersigned by the Head of Office.
- Treating a second submitted form as a simple edit. Follow the notification’s rule on multiple applications; the fee paid on an earlier form is generally not refunded.
- Selecting UT Cadre as a default preference without accepting posting anywhere in the Union Territory.

- Objective written examination in English, with one-fourth negative marking.
- Addition of S.O. 184 weightage marks (cadre-wise table below).
- Shortlisting for document verification.
- Cadre and department allocation on merit-cum-preference.
- Appointment by the indenting department after verification and fitness requirements of that department.
No interview stage is mentioned in Advertisement No. 09 of 2026. Selection on paper is written merit plus notified weightage, subject to DV and reservation.

Why Does JKSSB Jammu & Kashmir Matter?
JKSSB is the recruiting body of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir for non-gazetted posts. It issues advertisements, runs OMR / CBT exams, and forwards select lists to indenting departments. Parent control sits with the UT administration, not a central exam agency such as SSC.
Class-IV (MTS) work is office and field support: files, movement of papers, cleanliness, basic campus duties and department-specific errands. Sanitation Worker duties are heavier on cleaning and upkeep. Neither post is a desk-officer role.
Why candidates search this employer
Candidates search JKSSB Class-IV because it is a regular UT government entry after 10th/12th, with SL-1 pay, NPS and a known local posting map through District and Divisional cadres. Home-district weightage is a real scoring edge that SSC Group D does not copy in the same form.
The Board’s calendar is also familiar to J&K aspirants: one portal, printed annexures, and department allotment after merit. That is why “JKSSB MTS 2026” and “JKSSB Class 4 bharti” stay high-intent searches the week a big indent drops.
The honest limit is pace. Written dates, DV queues and appointment letters often stretch across many months. Cadre preference is not a guarantee of Srinagar or Jammu city. District posts can be in Ramban or Shopian as easily as in Jammu.

The SahisarkariJobs.in Analyst’s Take
This drive is the closest thing J&K 10th–12th pass candidates will see to a mass regular Group-D intake in 2026. Compare it with SSC GD / Group D only if you can leave the UT. For a candidate who must stay in Jammu or Kashmir, the nearer tabs are other JKSSB non-gazetted advertisements (Junior Assistant, Forest/Home department posts) and the previous Class-IV cycle run under the same S.O. 184 rules. Those clerical posts pay more and require typing. This one trades pay for a lower education ceiling and 2,863 seats.
Best fit: J&K domicile holders whose highest certificate is 10th or 12th, especially candidates who can prove home district, no government job in the immediate family, widow/orphan status, or five years as a casual worker. Those extra 5–10 marks move a mid-score written paper into the select zone in District Cadre.
Who should skip: Graduates hunting any government badge. The maximum qualification is 10+2. Candidates who refuse posting outside their home town should also pause. UT Cadre has only 105 posts, and even District Cadre follows vacancies, not a hometown promise.
Practical tip: Before 05 October, get the domicile, category, casual-worker and “no family in service” certificates dated and scanned. The written paper is only 75–85 marks. In District Cadre, home-district (10) plus two social marks can outweigh an 8–10 mark gap on the OMR sheet.
What Documents Are Required?
Keep originals and self-attested copies ready for DV:
- Valid J&K domicile certificate (issued on or before 03 November 2026)
- Matric / 8th / 10+2 marksheet and certificate, as claimed
- Date-of-birth proof (usually Matric certificate)
- Category certificate (SC, ST-1, ST-2, OBC, ALC/IB, RBA, EWS) if used
- PwBD certificate and scribe annexures, if applicable
- ESM certificate in the prescribed J&K form, if applicable
- Certificate that no family member (spouse, siblings, parents) is in government service, issued by SDM / Additional Commissioner
- Widow / divorced / judicially separated / orphan-girl certificate from the Tehsildar
- Casual-worker wage proof for 5+ years, countersigned by the Head of Office
- Recent photograph, signature and valid photo ID
- Printed online application and fee receipt
- Equivalence certificate, if the board name is not standard
- NOC / through-proper-channel copy for in-service candidates
Document alert: Weightage marks die at DV if the certificate date or issuing officer is wrong. A self-declaration is not a substitute for the SDM or Tehsildar format.
Service Conditions
These are regular Class-IV appointments in UT departments on SL-1, not a fixed-term NHM contract. Confirmation, leave and promotion follow the service rules of the allotted department.
NPS deductions apply. Probation length is not spelt out as a single figure in the extracts of this advertisement; follow the appointment order.
Posting is anywhere in the allotted cadre. UT Cadre can mean either division. Transfers later follow departmental rules. Vacancies may rise or fall and remain subject to court orders, as the notification itself records.
What Happens After Selection?
- JKSSB publishes the written result and a shortlist for document verification on jkssb.nic.in.
- You attend DV with originals. Weightage certificates are checked here, not on the application screen alone.
- A select list is drawn on written marks plus S.O. 184 points, applying the reservation roster.
- Cadre and department are allotted by merit-cum-preference. A higher rank improves the chance of your first preference; it does not freeze it.
- The indenting department issues the appointment letter and joining instructions.
- You join, complete medical/character formalities required by that department, enter SL-1 pay and NPS, and serve probation as per that department’s rules.
Based on other JKSSB Class-IV and matric-level cycles, the gap from application to joining is often many months. Promotion from MTS toward clerical lines, where allowed, is department-specific and usually needs years of service plus a separate exam.

FAQs – JKSSB Class-IV MTS 2026
What is the last date to apply for JKSSB Class-IV MTS 2026?
03 November 2026. Online forms open on 05 October 2026. No extension has been announced as of 01 September 2026. Submit at least two days early; the JKSSB portal slows down when a large Class-IV form is live.
What is the age limit for JKSSB Class-IV MTS?
40 years for Open Merit as on 01 January 2026. SC, ST-1, ST-2, RBA, ALC/IB, OBC and EWS get 43 years. PwBD gets 42 years. Casual workers claiming S.O. 184 marks get 5 more years on the upper limit. Not born after 01 January 2008.
Is there an exam for JKSSB Class-IV MTS, or is it interview-based?
Yes, there is a written objective exam in English with one-fourth negative marking. Extra marks under S.O. 184 are then added. Document verification follows. No interview stage is mentioned in Advertisement No. 09 of 2026.
What is the salary of JKSSB Class-IV MTS?
Pay is SL-1 ₹14,800–₹47,100. Indicative starting in-hand is about ₹22,000–₹26,000 a month after DA, HRA and NPS, depending on whether you join a Y-class city or a smaller town. The appointment order is the final slip.
Can final-year students or result-awaited candidates apply for JKSSB 2026?
Only if the qualifying certificate is dated on or before 03 November 2026. The Board has tied education to the application cut-off. Do not assume a later DV date will save a pending marksheet.
Is JKSSB Class-IV MTS a permanent government job?
Yes. These are regular Class-IV posts in J&K government departments on SL-1, not NHM-style contracts. Confirmation, NPS and promotion follow the allotted department’s service rules after joining and probation.
Can candidates from other states apply for JKSSB recruitment?
No. A valid Jammu & Kashmir domicile certificate issued on or before 03 November 2026 is mandatory. Living in the UT without that certificate is not enough.
Where will I be posted if I get selected for JKSSB Class-IV MTS?
Inside the cadre you are allotted: UT, Jammu Division, Kashmir Division, or a specific district. Preference helps but does not lock a city. District Cadre still follows vacancies, including thin districts such as Ramban and Shopian.
Is J&K domicile required for this Class-IV drive?
Yes. Every applicant must be a domicile of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and hold a certificate dated on or before the last date of application. Category benefit needs a separate valid certificate as well.
What is the salary of a Class-IV MTS in Jammu and Kashmir?
SL-1 starts at ₹14,800 basic. With present-range DA and HRA, many new Class-IV employees take home roughly ₹22,000–₹26,000. Allowances change with posting town. It is stable UT pay, not Level-2 clerical pay.
What are the disadvantages of a Class-IV government job in J&K?
Worth knowing before you apply: the education cap blocks graduates, the written paper is only part of a 100-mark mix, and posting can be far from home even in District Cadre. Joining also takes months after the result. If you want a clerk’s desk and Level-4 pay, wait for Junior Assistant.
Do Class-IV staff get pension in Jammu and Kashmir?
New regular appointees are covered by NPS, not old pension, unless a later UT order says otherwise. Monthly NPS leaves the in-hand lower than the gross. Long-term benefit depends on contribution years, not on the exam rank.
Is there a physical test for sanitation worker or MTS posts in J&K?
Advertisement No. 09 of 2026 does not list PST/PET standards or a running test as a selection stage. Appointment may still require departmental medical fitness. Train for the written paper first; do not assume an Army-style PET.
Final Checklist – Is This the Right Job for You?
- You meet the age and educational criteria as on 01 January 2026 / 03 November 2026.
- Your highest qualification is not above 10+2.
- You hold, or will hold by 03 November 2026, a J&K domicile certificate.
- You are comfortable with regular Class-IV / sanitation duties, not a clerical desk.
- You can arrange domicile, category and weightage certificates before DV.
- You are prepared for the written MCQ with negative marking.
- You accept posting anywhere in the allotted UT / Divisional / District cadre.
