[Official] Cabinet Approves Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved an SPV called the Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority (ITLA) on 6 October 2026. ITLA will be the apex body for integrated transport and logistics planning, research, project appraisal, monitoring, policy support and data analytics. [Official] DRDO Tests High-Altitude Platform at 21 km

The Defence Research and Development Organisation flight-tested an indigenous High-Altitude Platform on 6 October 2026. The lighter-than-air system, designed by the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment, Agra, as a long-endurance stratospheric surveillance platform, reached 21 km above mean sea level and stayed at 20 km for more than 30 minutes before a commanded descent. It was recovered, and real-time video and flight data reached the ground station. [Official] Rajnath Singh Launches Fleet Support Ship Surya

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched Fleet Support Ship FSS-1, named Surya, at Hindustan Shipyard Limited, Visakhapatnam, on 6 October 2026. He also laid the keel of FSS-5 and inaugurated an upgraded Slipway-4 and a 300-tonne Goliath crane. The ships, designed and built by HSL, are intended for at-sea replenishment, with cargo and fluid capacity, first-line workshops, a helicopter deck and self-defence systems. [Official] HAL Koraput Delivers 2,000th Aero-Engine

Rajnath Singh witnessed the delivery of the 2,000th aero-engine by HAL Koraput on 6 October 2026 and announced a second Shakti engine line. [Official] Army Chief Flags In Indo-Argentine Expedition

General Dhiraj Seth, Chief of the Army Staff, flagged in a joint Indo-Argentine Army mountaineering expedition in New Delhi on 6 October 2026. The 35-member team — 25 from the Indian Army and 10 from the Argentine Army — had summited Mt Abi Gamin (7,355 m) on 17 September and Mt Kamet (7,756 m) on 21 September. Mt Kamet, in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, is India’s third-highest peak after Kanchenjunga and Nanda Devi. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics on 6 October to Francis Halzen of the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The citation credits “decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin.” IceCube uses a cubic kilometre of South Pole ice fitted with light sensors to detect neutrinos. [Official] Future effective date: Dixit Named Next Air Chief

Future effective date: The government appointed Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, now Vice Chief of the Air Staff, as the 29th Chief of the Air Staff from the afternoon of 31 October 2026, in the rank of Air Chief Marshal. He succeeds Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, who superannuates that day. Dixit was born on 9 December 1966 and commissioned into the fighter stream on 6 December 1986. He is an experimental test pilot and qualified flying instructor, with more than 3,500 flying hours, and has served as CISC and as AOC-in-C, Central Air Command. He had not taken charge on 6 October.
