RRC NCR Cultural Quota Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online for 2 Posts (Sitar & Tabla)

RRC NCR Cultural Quota Recruitment 2026 for Sitar and Tabla Level-2 posts

Vacancies: 2 · Posts: 2 · Type: Regular Government Service · Mode: Online · Fee: ₹500 / ₹250 · Apply: 20 Aug–19 Sep 2026 · Salary: Level-2 (₹19,900 basic) · Selection: Written + Talent Assessment · Location: North Central Railway

North Central Railway’s cultural quota drive for 2026-27 is one of the few open-advertisement opportunities that lets trained classical musicians enter the Indian Railways as permanent Group-C staff. With only two seats — one each for Sitar and Tabla — competition will be sharp, but the entry is direct into Level-2 pay and full railway benefits. Applications opened on 20 August 2026 and close on 19 September 2026 through the RRC Prayagraj portal.

This is not a temporary or honorary engagement. Selected artists join as regular employees, perform official cultural duties when required, and continue to discharge the cadre duties of the Level-2 post allotted to them. The written test plus practical demonstration format makes it accessible to candidates who already hold a recognised certificate in the instrument and can demonstrate stage-level skill.

If you have a government-recognised degree, diploma or certificate in Sitar or Tabla and meet the educational and age criteria, this is a rare window into a stable railway career that values your artistic training.

Only candidates who qualify the Written Test are called for the Practical Demonstration. The final panel is prepared on the combined marks. Selected candidates must pass the prescribed medical examination and any initial training before appointment. Posting can be anywhere on North Central Railway as decided by the competent authority.

Why Does North Central Railway Matter?

North Central Railway is one of the 18 zones of Indian Railways, headquartered at Prayagraj. It covers critical sections of Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas, operating passenger and freight services across Prayagraj, Agra and Jhansi divisions. Cultural quota appointments allow the zone to maintain its own pool of trained artists for official functions, railway cultural programmes and public outreach events while giving the artists a permanent Group-C career.

Candidates searching for “railway cultural quota jobs”, “Sitar Tabla railway vacancy” or “RRC NCR Level-2 recruitment” usually want a stable government job that still values their classical training. The downside is the extremely limited number of seats — only two this year — so the practical demonstration becomes highly competitive.

The SahisarkariJobs.in Analyst’s Take

Most railway cultural quota notifications across zones follow a similar pattern of one or two seats per instrument. Compared with the recent North Western Railway or Southern Railway cultural drives, NCR’s 2026 notification is among the earliest to open and offers a clear Level-2 entry with full 7th CPC benefits.

Best fit: Candidates who already hold a recognised certificate in Sitar or Tabla, have stage or broadcast experience, and are looking for a permanent railway post rather than freelance performance work.

Who should skip: Those without any formal cultural qualification or who cannot travel for the practical demonstration. Purely academic music students without performance practice will find the 35-mark practical stage difficult.

Practical tip: Fill Annexure-G with every genuine national or state-level prize and AIR/Doordarshan performance. Only the certificates listed there will be evaluated for the 15 marks — extra certificates produced later are ignored.

What Documents Are Required?

  • Matriculation / Intermediate certificate (for age and educational qualification)
  • Cultural qualification certificate (degree/diploma/certificate in Sitar or Tabla) from a Government Recognised Institution
  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/EBC/Minority) if claiming relaxation or fee concession
  • Annexure-G (self-declaration of awards, prizes and performances) – mandatory
  • Photograph and signature as per size specifications
  • Aadhaar and other ID proofs for verification

All originals must be produced at document verification. Certificates not mentioned in Annexure-G will not be considered for talent marks.

What Happens After Selection?

  1. Candidates shortlisted after written test and practical demonstration are called for document verification.
  2. Original certificates (educational, cultural, category, Annexure-G) are scrutinised.
  3. Medical examination is conducted by the Railway Medical Authority as per the prescribed standard for the post.
  4. Candidates who clear medicals are issued an offer of appointment.
  5. Initial training (if prescribed for the cadre post) is completed; only stipend is paid during this period.
  6. Final posting is decided by the competent authority anywhere on North Central Railway. The artist continues to perform cultural duties whenever required by the administration while discharging regular Level-2 responsibilities.

Probation and confirmation follow standard railway rules for Level-2 posts.

A: 18 to 30 years as on 01 January 2027 for unreserved candidates. OBC gets 3 years, SC/ST 5 years, and PwBD 10 years of relaxation. Age is calculated strictly as on the cut-off date.

A: No. You must already possess the required educational and cultural certificates by the time of application and produce them at document verification.

A: No, it is desirable, not mandatory. Such experience and national prizes carry weight in the 15-mark testimonials component and improve ranking, but the essential requirement is only the recognised cultural certificate.
