How Are Candidates Selected?
Selection is a multi-stage process:
- Written Examination (Objective MCQ)
- Part A: Punjabi Language (Matric level) – Qualifying only. Minimum 50% marks required.
- Part B: General subjects (merit-deciding).
- Negative marking of ¼ mark for each wrong answer in Part B.
- Exact subject-wise marks and duration will be confirmed in the official scheme / admit card.
- Typing Test (Qualifying)
- English: 30 words per minute.
- Punjabi: 30 words per minute in Unicode-compliant Raavi font.
- Conducted on a computer. Must qualify both.
- Document Verification / Counselling
- Shortlisted candidates (on the basis of Part-B marks after qualifying typing) are called for verification of original documents and department allotment.
Merit list is prepared solely on Part-B marks of candidates who clear the typing test. Tie-break: older candidate first, then higher marks in the required qualification, then Matric marks.
Why Does PSSSB Punjab Matter?
The Subordinate Services Selection Board, Punjab is the primary recruiting agency for Group-B and Group-C posts in various departments of the Punjab Government. It conducts transparent, computer-based and OMR examinations for thousands of posts every year.
Clerk posts form the backbone of office administration across revenue, education, health, transport and other departments. Selected candidates get regular state-government service, Level-2 pay, DA, HRA, medical facilities and NPS.
One practical limitation: postings can be in any district of Punjab, and transfers are possible as per administrative requirements. Candidates seeking only metro or home-district postings should keep this in mind.
The SahisarkariJobs.in Analyst’s Take
Compared with recent PSSSB Clerk-IT or other Group-C drives, this common-cadre Clerk recruitment offers a larger volume (531 posts) and a clearer re-open window for candidates who missed the first cycle. It is closer in nature to earlier PSSSB Clerk advertisements than to specialised IT or accounts streams.
Best fit: Fresh graduates from Punjab (or those who studied Punjabi at Matric) who already hold a recognised computer certificate and are looking for a stable Level-2 government job with NPS.
Who should skip: Candidates without any computer certificate, those who cannot type 30 wpm in both English and Punjabi, or those unwilling to accept posting anywhere in Punjab.
Practical tip: Complete the 120-hour computer course (if not already done) and practise Punjabi typing in Raavi font before the written exam result. Typing is only qualifying, but many candidates fail at this stage every cycle.

Q6: Is PSSSB Clerk a permanent government job?
A: Yes. It is a regular Group-C permanent post under the Punjab Government with NPS and other state service benefits.
Q7: Can candidates from other states apply for PSSSB Clerk?
A: Yes, Indian citizens can apply. However, reservation benefits (SC/BC/EWS/PwBD/ESM) require a valid Punjab domicile/residence certificate not older than five years.
Q8: Where will I be posted if selected?
A: Anywhere in Punjab across the 29 departments that have sent demand. Allotment is done at counselling on the basis of merit rank and available vacancies.
Q9: Do I need to re-apply if I already applied in February–March 2026?

A: Yes. Either a 120-hour course from a recognised institution covering office applications or a DOEACC ‘O’ Level certificate is compulsory. Without it the application will be rejected.
Q13: How much do clerks earn in Punjab government jobs?
A: Level-2 clerks typically start at around ₹32,000–₹38,000 in-hand. With annual increments, DA revisions and possible MACP, the figure rises steadily over the years.
