What Posts Are Available?

NIF has split 10 Scientist seats across eight post codes. Scientist ‘B’ has the most openings (5). Scientist ‘D’ is a single UR post. Category totals in the advertisement are UR 6, OBC 3 and SC 1. EWS and PwBD seats are not printed as a separate roster in this notice. NIF says the notified numbers may change and a reserve panel can be used for later vacancies.

Read Annexure-I of the PDF before you pick a code. “Biological Sciences” covers Biology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology and allied titles. Engineering equivalents for ECE, Mechanical and Production are listed in the same annexure.

What Is the Age Limit?

Age is reckoned on the closing date of online applications.

PostUpper age (as printed)
Scientist ‘D’Not exceeding 40 years
Scientist ‘C’Not exceeding 35 years
Scientist ‘B’Not exceeding 35 years

Relaxation for SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/PwBD and other notified categories follows Government of India orders. The PDF does not print a finished category-wise maximum (for example it does not say “OBC: 38 years”). Check the relevant DoPT / DST order for your exact extended limit before you assume a number.

Date of birth is accepted only from the Matriculation / SSLC certificate.

Examples (Scientist ‘B’ / ‘C’, 35-year UR cap, using 28 September 2026 as the working cut-off):

✅ A 34-year-old UR candidate born on 29 September 1992 — eligible (within the 35-year limit as on the closing date).

❌ A 36-year-old UR candidate born on 28 September 1990 — not eligible (exceeds the maximum age by 1 year).

Scientist ‘D’ uses a 40-year cap on the same cut-off date. Use our Age Eligibility Calculator to check instantly.

What Is the Scientist Salary in Gandhinagar?

Pay is 7th CPC. Scientist ‘B’ starts at Level-10 (basic ₹56,100). Scientist ‘C’ is Level-11 (basic ₹67,700). Scientist ‘D’ is Level-12 (basic ₹78,800).

Gandhinagar is not an X-class metro. Treat it as a Y-class city for 20% HRA unless the appointment order says otherwise. Figures below use DA at about 55% of basic (2026 rate used for estimates), 20% HRA, Transport Allowance at the “other cities” rate for Level-9 and above, and 10% NPS on basic + DA.

PostBasicIndicative grossIndicative in-hand
Scientist ‘B’ (Level-10)₹56,100~₹1.01 lakh~₹88,000–₹94,000 / month
Scientist ‘C’ (Level-11)₹67,700~₹1.22 lakh~₹1.08–1.12 lakh/month
Scientist ‘D’ (Level-12)₹78,800~₹1.41 lakh~₹1.25–1.32 lakh/month

Proof bracket for Scientist ‘B’: basic ₹56,100 + DA ~₹30,855 + HRA ~₹11,220 + TA ~₹3,600 ≈ gross ₹1,01,775; minus NPS ~₹8,700 and routine deductions. Net is always below gross.

These are illustrative 7th CPC estimates, not an offer letter. Actual DA, HRA class and NPS / tax will follow the joining order. Run the numbers on the 7th CPC Salary Calculator. After confirmation, NPS accumulation can be modelled on the NPS Pension Calculator.

No city-compensatory or campus-housing guarantee is written in this advertisement.

What Is the Application Fee?

CategoryFee
UR / OBC / EWS₹1,000 (non-refundable)
SC / ST / PwBDNil
Women (all categories)Nil

Pay only through the gateway on jobs.nifindia.org. Bank charges sit with the candidate. A form without a successful fee payment (where a fee applies) is rejected. The fee is not refunded if you withdraw, are found ineligible, or if NIF cancels the process.

Fee exemption needs valid proof at verification. An OBC (NCL) certificate must follow the Government of India format and must not be older than one year.

How to Apply?

Applications are accepted only on the NIF Recruitment Portal. Hard copies are not required and will not be accepted as a substitute.

  1. Open the NIF Scientist 2026 candidate login/registration page with a working email and mobile number.
  2. Register, then log in and choose one post code from PC-01 to PC-08.
  3. Fill education, experience, publications and category fields exactly as on your certificates.
  4. Upload self-attested files: photo, signature, DOB proof, degrees, Ph.D. award / registration (if applicable), experience certificates, caste / PwBD / EWS proof, publication list, NOC or undertaking.
  5. Resize the photo and signature first with the Photo & Signature Resizer so the portal does not reject the file.
  6. Pay ₹1,000 if you are UR, OBC or EWS and not a woman candidate.
  7. Submit before 11:59 PM on the closing date and save the acknowledgement.

Portal opening: 29 August 2026. Portal closing: 30 days from the Employment News publication date. Do not wait for the last evening. NIF itself warns of traffic spikes.

One application only. If you file more than one form, only one is considered. If the forms are for different pay levels, the lowest pay level is the one that survives. If they are at the same level, the Screening-cum-Shortlisting Committee decides which code is more relevant. No request to switch the counted form is entertained.

Serving staff of government departments, PSUs, autonomous bodies, universities and government-funded labs should apply through proper channel or upload an NOC. If the NOC is not ready, upload an undertaking to produce it at interview. Missing both at interview cancels the candidature. You do not need the NOC in hand on day one of filling the form.

Experience letters must show designation, joining and relieving dates, nature of duties and pay level. If you held more than one post in the same office, each spell must be split.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Filing two or three post codes “to be safe”. The extra forms can drag you down to the lowest pay level.
  2. Counting Ph.D. or full-time Master’s years as professional R&D experience. The notice excludes that period.
  3. Uploading an OBC certificate older than one year or without the creamy-layer exclusion line.
  4. Holding a foreign Ph.D. or Master’s without an AIU / statutory-council equivalence certificate.
  5. Leaving the NOC / undertaking blank if you already work in government or a PSU.

અરજી ફક્ત jobs.nifindia.org પર ઓનલાઇન છે.

How Are Candidates Selected?

Selection is a chain of stages, not a single interview day.

  1. Scrutiny by a Screening-cum-Shortlisting Committee.
  2. Shortlisting if applications are large. NIF may tighten the cut using the needs of that post code.
  3. Written test, if NIF considers it necessary. The test may be run by NIF or by a Central Government agency. It is not confirmed as a fixed paper for every code.
  4. Interview before a Selection Committee named by the Chairperson of the NIF Governing Board, under the NIF Recruitment Rules, 2026.
  5. Final recommendation using interview performance, academic record, research output and relevant experience, then document checks and the reservation roster.
  6. Reserve panel in merit order, valid for one year from panel approval, for advertised seats and later vacancies from resignation or retirement.

Mere possession of the essential qualification does not guarantee a call letter. Equivalence of an unusual degree title is decided by the Screening Committee, and that decision is final.

No interview-only promise is written. If applications stay small, NIF may move from screening to interview. If they swell, a written paper can appear. Watch www.nif.org.in for the method actually used.

No TA/DA or guest house is provided for the test or interview. Canvassing disqualifies. NIF will not correspond with candidates who are not shortlisted.

Exam subjects, marks and negative marking are not specified in Adv/02/2026. Do not treat an old CSIR or ASRB pattern as official for this drive.

Why Does NIF Gandhinagar Matter?

National Innovation Foundation – India is the country’s institutional home for grassroots technological innovations and outstanding traditional knowledge. It works under the Department of Science & Technology from Grambharti, Amrapur, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The foundation scouts unaided ideas from farmers, artisans and healers, then supports validation, value addition and diffusion.

A Scientist here does not sit only in a conventional CSIR-style lab. Typical work includes on-farm trials, herbal or veterinary validation, rural machinery prototyping, prior-art searches, PPV&FRA files and writing for policy audiences. That mix is the point of the NIF organisation profile and of the wider science and technology sector on this site.

Gandhinagar posting is the default in this advertisement. Field spells in rural, hilly or tribal pockets are part of the desirable profile for several codes. Campus housing is not promised in the notice.

Candidates search NIF because it is a rare regular Scientist cadre inside a DST autonomous body that still works with informal innovators. The honest limit: the campus is outside Ahmedabad’s core, the role is publication-plus-field rather than a pure bench job, and career velocity will not match a large CSIR lab with dozens of Scientist E/F seats. For Gujarat government and central-institute jobs that sit at the innovation–agriculture edge, this remains a serious option.

The SahisarkariJobs.in Analyst’s Take

Set this notice next to CSIR Scientist ‘B’/‘C’ drives and ICAR / ASRB entry, not next to a bank SO paper. Those exams give a written merit list and a wider city network. NIF gives ten seats, a possible written screen only if volume is high, and a final call that weighs papers, field work and interview together. A candidate with two or three solid papers and real village or KVK exposure is closer to this shortlist than a high-CGPA graduate with no publications.

Best fit: Ph.D. or First Class Master’s holders who already work on biopesticides, plant variety registration, rural tools, herbal veterinary products or documentation of traditional knowledge, and who accept Gandhinagar as home base.

Skip this if you need a guaranteed written-exam merit path, want a metro CSIR/DRDO campus, or hold a Master’s with no publications. PC-08 in particular is not a back door for a general life-science M.Sc.

Practical tip: Choose one post code and stop. A second application at a higher grade can be thrown away in favour of the lower pay level. Align your paper titles and experience letters to that code’s essential column before you pay the fee.

Timeline from close of applications to joining in similar DST autonomous drives often runs several months. Budget for that wait. Promotion after joining will follow NIF Recruitment Rules, 2026 and vacancies at Scientist ‘C’/‘D’/‘E’, not an automatic year-by-year climb.

What Documents Are Required?

Keep self-attested scans ready for the portal and originals for later verification.

  • Matriculation / SSLC certificate (only accepted proof of date of birth)
  • Degree and Master’s marksheets and certificates
  • PhD registration and award certificates, where the post needs a doctorate
  • Publication list matching the count required for that post code
  • Experience certificates with dates, duties and pay level
  • AIU or council equivalence certificate for foreign qualifications
  • Caste certificate: OBC (NCL) in the GoI format, not older than one year; SC/ST as applicable
  • EWS / PwBD certificate, if claimed
  • NOC or undertaking for serving government / PSU / autonomous employees (Annexure-2 format is in the PDF)
  • Photo and signature in the portal’s size limits
  • Fee receipt (UR/OBC/EWS men)

Document alert: Experience gained during a full-time degree will be ignored. Split every post-level spell if you stayed in one organisation. An OBC certificate that only states caste, without NCL language, is a frequent rejection point.

What Happens After Selection?

  1. The Selection Committee recommends names. A reserve panel stays valid for one year from approval.
  2. Shortlisted candidates produce originals. Serving employees must show the NOC at this stage if it was not uploaded earlier.
  3. NIF issues an offer under the NIF Recruitment Rules, 2026. Pay is fixed in Level-10, 11 or 12 as per the post.
  4. Joining is at Grambharti, Amrapur, Gandhinagar. No TA/DA was paid for the interview; relocation support is not described in this advertisement.
  5. Service conditions of a DST autonomous institute apply. Pension / NPS specifics are not spelt out in Adv/02/2026. Confirm the scheme from the offer letter. Most post-2004 central autonomous recruits are under NPS.
  6. Work then splits between validation projects, field visits, publications and files for patents or PPV&FRA, depending on your post code.

Probation length, bond and surety are not specified in this advertisement. Do not assume a two-year bond. Read the appointment order.

Disputes fall under the courts at Gandhinagar / Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The English text of the notice prevails over the Hindi text if they differ.

FAQs – NIF Scientist Recruitment 2026

What is the last date to apply for NIF Scientist 2026?

About 28 September 2026, if you count 30 days from 29 August 2026. The legal closing date is 30 days from the Employment News / Rozgar Samachar publication date, till 11:59 PM. No extension is announced as of 05 September 2026.

What is the age limit for NIF Scientist posts?

40 years for Scientist ‘D’ and 35 years for Scientist ‘C’ and ‘B’, as of the closing date. Reserved-category relaxation follows Government of India rules. The notice does not mention a finished OBC or SC.

Is there an exam for NIF Scientist, or is it interview-based?

It depends on volume. Every form is screened. NIF may add a written test, run by itself or by a Central Government agency. Final recommendation rests on interview, academics, papers and experience. No syllabus is printed yet.

What is the salary of an NIF Scientist in Gandhinagar?

Indicative in-hand is about ₹88,000–₹94,000 for Scientist ‘B’, ₹1.08–1.12 lakh for Scientist ‘C’, and ₹1.25–1.32 lakh for Scientist ‘D’, using Level-10/11/12 basics, ~55% DA and 20% HRA. Confirm from the offer letter.

Can final-year students or result-awaited candidates apply for NIF 2026?

No. Essential qualifications must be held on the closing date. A running Ph.D. or a Master’s result that arrives after the close will not do. Produce the award certificate at verification.

Is NIF Scientist a permanent government job?

Yes, this advertisement is for direct recruitment to regular Scientist posts. NIF is a DST autonomous institute. NPS versus any older pension scheme will be clear only in the appointment letter.

Can candidates from other states apply for NIF recruitment?

Yes. This is all-India. Any Indian citizen who meets the post-code eligibility can apply. Gujarat domicile is not required.

Where will I be posted if I get selected as an NIF Scientist?

At NIF, Grambharti, Amrapur, Gandhinagar, Gujarat – 382650. Fieldwork in rural or tribal sites appears in several desirable profiles. The notice does not offer a choice of city.

Is a GATE score required for NIF Scientist recruitment?

No. Shortlisting is not GATE-based. NIF looks at the stated degree, R&D years where required, publication count and interview. A GATE score is neither mandated nor given marks in this PDF.

What is the probation period in NIF?

Not mentioned in Adv/02/2026. Probation, bond and notice period will come from the NIF Recruitment Rules, 2026 and the offer letter. Do not assume a standard two-year central probation.

What are the disadvantages of working as a Scientist at NIF?

Worth knowing before you apply: the campus is outside Ahmedabad, field travel is part of several codes, and there are only ten seats so promotion depends on scarce higher-grade vacancies. No TA/DA is paid even to reach the interview.

Is NIF a government or private organisation?

Government. NIF is an autonomous institute of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. It is not a private incubator and not a CSIR laboratory, though the work overlaps with public research.

How much do Scientists earn in DST autonomous institutes?

Pay follows the 7th CPC scientific matrix: Level-10, 11 and 12 in this drive. In-hand in a Y-class city is typically high-eighty-thousands at Level-10 and crosses ₹1 lakh at Level-11 after DA and HRA, before tax on total income.

Final Checklist – Is This the Right Job for You?

Use this quick checklist before you apply:

  • You meet the age and educational criteria as on the closing date (PhD or First Class Master’s as required, plus the stated papers).
  • You are comfortable with regular scientific service at Gandhinagar and with field validation work.
  • You can upload publications, experience letters and category proofs now, not after the portal shuts.
  • You are prepared for the most demanding stage: shortlisting on papers and experience, then an interview (written test possible).
  • You will file only one post code, and you accept Gandhinagar as the posting.
