[Official] Steel Ministry Constitutes Industry Safety Council and Directorate

The Ministry of Steel on 28 September 2026 decided to set up a Steel Industry Safety Council (SISC) as an apex safety body under the ministry. The Council will be chaired by the Steel Secretary and include integrated steel producers plus DGMS, PESO, NDMA and steel-technology institutions. A supporting Steel Industry Safety Directorate (SISD) will run audits, incident reviews and India-specific safety standards.

[Secondary] India Hosts 11th ARIN-AP Annual Meeting in New Delhi

India on 28 September 2026 opened the 11th Annual General Meeting of the Asset Recovery Interagency Network, Asia Pacific (ARIN-AP) in New Delhi, held through 1 October under India’s 2026 presidency. [Official] August IIP Grows 8.0% on Manufacturing and Power

The National Statistics Office, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, on 28 September 2026 released Quick Estimates showing the Index of Industrial Production rose 8.0% year-on-year in August 2026 (index 123.3 vs 114.2 a year earlier). Manufacturing grew 9.0%, and electricity and gas supply grew 12.3%; mining and quarrying contracted 5.6%. Capital goods grew 16.9%. July’s earlier quick estimate was 6.7%; July indices were finally revised with this release. The print is the fifth monthly reading on the 2022–23 base.

[Official] Sitharaman Attends 11th AIIB Meeting; India–Jordan Trade Target Cited

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 28 September 2026 attended the 11th Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Board of Governors in Doha. On the sidelines, she met Jordan’s Planning and International Cooperation Minister Zeina Zeid Toukan. [Official] India and France Review TRISHNA, Gaganyaan and Space Start-ups

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on 28 September 2026 met French Higher Education, Research and Space Minister Philippe Baptiste in New Delhi. He said the third joint ISRO–CNES satellite, TRISHNA (Thermal Infra-Red Imaging Satellite for High-resolution Natural Resource Assessment), is progressing, and thanked CNES for Gaganyaan consumables and flight-surgeon training. [Official] 24-Week Trial Finds No Liver or Kidney Injury from Ashwagandha Extract

The India Meteorological Department on 28 September 2026 said a Depression over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining Myanmar coast lay near 15.6°N, 97.6°E at 0530 hrs IST, and that isolated heavy rain and squally winds of 50–60 kmph were likely over the Andaman Islands on 28–29 September. A Western Disturbance was expected to bring moderate to heavy rain over Jammu & Kashmir–Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. The southwest monsoon withdrawal line continued through Gurdaspur–Chandigarh–Muzaffarnagar–Aligarh–Dholpur–Udaipur–Deesa–Naliya.

The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying launched the Livestock Insurance Portal in New Delhi on 28 September 2026. Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh headed the launch. The portal is a single digital platform for policy issuance, claims, monitoring and reporting under the department’s Livestock Insurance Scheme, linked to the National Livestock Mission, and is available in Hindi and English plus 11 regional languages.
