Bihar School Examination Board has opened the window for the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test 2026 just days before the application starts. Candidates who want to teach Classes 9–10 or 11–12 in Bihar government schools must clear this mandatory state-level eligibility exam before they can even apply for future teacher recruitment drives.
The online form will be available from the afternoon of 17 August 2026 till 31 August 2026 on the dedicated portal. The certificate carries lifetime validity, and there is no negative marking in the computer-based test.
Passing STET does not give a job. It only makes you eligible to appear in the next BPSC Teacher Recruitment Examination or any other teacher selection process conducted by the Education Department, Bihar.
Who Should Apply?
- Graduation + B.Ed (NCTE recognised) with 50% marks in the relevant subject → Paper-I (Secondary, Classes 9–10)

Candidates who meet the relaxed NCTE norms (45% + B.Ed or integrated courses) as per 2002/2007 regulations can also apply for the respective paper.
Special categories (Physical Education, Music, Fine Arts, Dance, Special School Teacher) have separate qualification norms listed in Parishisht-1 and Parishisht-2 of the notification.

Why Does Bihar School Examination Board Matter?
Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) is the statutory body responsible for conducting secondary and higher secondary examinations as well as teacher eligibility tests in the state. It functions under the Education Department, Government of Bihar, and is the sole authority for STET certification.
STET is the mandatory gateway for anyone aiming to become a secondary or senior secondary teacher in Bihar government schools. Without a valid STET certificate, candidates cannot apply for the main teacher recruitment drives.
The lifetime validity of the certificate is a major advantage compared with many other state TETs that expire after a fixed period. However, the certificate alone does not guarantee a job — competition in subsequent BPSC TRE cycles remains high.
The SahisarkariJobs.in Analyst’s Take
Bihar STET 2026 is the essential first step for teaching aspirants targeting Classes 9–12 posts in the state. Unlike CTET (which is accepted by many central and some state schools), Bihar STET is specifically required for state government secondary and higher secondary schools. Candidates already holding CTET still need this certificate for Bihar government vacancies.
Best fit: Graduates and post-graduates with B.Ed who are serious about a long-term teaching career in Bihar government schools and want the lifetime eligibility certificate before the next large-scale teacher recruitment.
Who should skip: Candidates looking for an immediate job or those unwilling to appear in a separate written test later. Also, those who already possess a valid STET from recent cycles and do not need a fresh certificate.
Practical tip: Apply for both papers only if your qualifications fully match both levels. Paying the higher fee for both papers without proper subject matching is a common and costly error.

FAQs – Bihar STET 2026
Q1: What is the last date to apply for Bihar STET 2026?
A: 31 August 2026. Late applications are not accepted. No extension has been announced as of 16 August 2026.
Q2: What is the age limit for Bihar STET?
A: Minimum 21 years as of 01 August 2026. The maximum is 37 years for UR male, 40 years for UR female/BC/EBC, and 42 years for SC/ST. PwD gets 10 years extra.
Q3: Is there an exam for Bihar STET, or is it interview-based?
A: Yes — a computer-based test of 150 marks (100 subject + 50 teaching aptitude) with no negative marking. The duration is 2 hours 30 minutes per paper.
Q4: What is the salary after clearing Bihar STET?
A: STET is only an eligibility certificate. Actual salary comes only after selection in a subsequent teacher recruitment drive and follows the pay scale of the post you are appointed to.
Q5: Can final-year students apply for Bihar STET 2026?
A: The notification requires completed graduation/post-graduation and B.Ed. Result-awaited candidates should verify the exact wording in the official PDF before applying.
Q6: Is Bihar STET a permanent government job?
A: No. It is a pure eligibility test. The certificate makes you eligible to apply for future teacher posts; it does not itself create a job.
Q7: Can candidates from other states apply for Bihar STET?
A: Yes, but they will be treated as General category for fee, age and qualifying marks. Reservation benefits are restricted to permanent residents of Bihar.
Q8: Where will I be posted after clearing Bihar STET?
A: STET itself has no posting. Posting happens only after you clear a later teacher recruitment examination and are allotted a school by the Education Department.
Q9: Is the Bihar STET certificate valid for lifetime?
A: Yes. As per departmental order, the STET 2026 qualifying certificate carries lifetime validity.
Q10: Can I appear for both Paper-I and Paper-II?
A: Yes, if you meet the educational qualifications for both levels. You will have to pay the combined fee of ₹1,440 (General) or ₹1,140 (SC/ST/PwD).
Q11: What are the disadvantages of Bihar STET?
A: Here’s the catch — clearing STET does not give you a job. You still have to clear a separate competitive recruitment exam (usually BPSC TRE) where competition is intense, and vacancies are limited.
Q12: Is Bihar STET accepted outside Bihar?
A: No. It is a state-specific eligibility certificate required for Bihar government secondary and higher secondary schools. Other states have their own TETs.
Q13: How many times can I attempt Bihar STET?
A: There is no restriction on the number of attempts as long as you meet the age criteria on the cut-off date.
