Vacancies: 170 · Posts: 31 · Type: Regular Government Service · Mode: Online · Fee: ₹200 exam + ₹150 OTR · Apply: 07 Sep–06 Oct 2026 · Salary: Level 22–30 · Selection: CBT + Interview · Location: Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, the state recruiting body under the Government of Tamil Nadu, has opened the Combined Technical Services Examination (Interview Posts) 2026 from Chennai. What Is the CTSE Interview Post Salary in Tamil Nadu?

Pay follows the Tamil Nadu Revised Pay Rules matrix. State department posts typically sit on NPS / GPF-linked state rules. Several PSU posts (TANCEM, ELCOT, TIIC and others) are marked EPF / EGF / GFTR–PFTR–SPF-cum-GSTR in the notification.

Pay LevelStarting basic (TN matrix)Indicative in-hand (Chennai-class posting)Typical posts
Level 22₹56,100About ₹78,000–₹92,000VAS, Research Assistant, most departmental posts, TIIC Senior Officer, SIPCOT AM
Level 23₹56,900About ₹80,000–₹94,000Manager (Accounts), ELCOT
Level 25₹59,300About ₹84,000–₹98,000Deputy Manager (TANCEM), FA-cum-CS
Level 27₹62,200About ₹88,000–₹1,02,000AGM (Finance), SIPCOT
Level 28₹1,23,100About ₹1.55 lakh–₹1.75 lakhUnit Head–DGM, TANCEM
Level 30₹1,23,600About ₹1.55 lakh–₹1.75 lakhPort Officer

Claim + proof (Level 22, indicative): basic ₹56,100 + DA near 60% of basic (Tamil Nadu DA orders around mid-2026) + HRA as per city class (Chennai commonly 16% of basic under state rules) + CCA, minus NPS/EPF and professional tax. Gross before deductions is near ₹95,000–₹1,00,000 in Chennai; take-home is lower.

This is not an official salary slip. DA, HRA and PF schemes differ by department versus PSU. Verify from the appointment order.

Estimate the state-matrix range with the 7th CPC Salary Calculator. This calculator gives an indicative estimate. Use the conversion and allowances specified by Tamil Nadu / the appointing PSU — the official formula prevails.

Allowances, medical facilities, housing and leave follow the appointing department or corporation rules. Do not treat PSU EPF posts as automatic state-pension posts.

What Is the Application Fee?

ItemAmountWho pays
One-time Registration (OTR)₹150New users only; valid 5 years
Examination fee₹200 per subject paperAll, unless exempt under Annexure II
Each additional subject paper₹200Candidates applying to posts that need another Paper II subject

Pay online by net banking, credit card, debit card or UPI on the examination portal. No refund after payment.

Fee concession categories are listed in Annexure II of the notification (typically includes specified reserved categories, PwBD, Destitute Widow and Ex-Servicemen as per current TNPSC rules). Confirm your category in the PDF before skipping payment.

How to Apply?

Applications are accepted only online from 07 September 2026 to 06 October 2026, 11:59 PM on tnpscexams.in.

  1. Open the TNPSC examination portal and complete One Time Registration if you do not already have a live OTR (₹150, photo 20–50 KB, signature 10–20 KB). Resize files with the Photo & Signature Resizer.
  2. Log in and open Combined Technical Services Examination (Interview Posts) / Notification No. 8/2026.
  3. Fill personal, community, PSTM, education and experience fields exactly as on certificates.
  4. Choose the subject paper that matches the post. Pay ₹200 for each extra subject paper if you target more than one paper.
  5. Upload the documents asked in the form. Submit and note the Application Number.
  6. Use the correction window only from 10 to 12 October 2026. Not every field is editable.

If more than one application is submitted for the same post, only the last submitted application will be considered. Fee paid on an earlier form is generally not transferred.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Treating 06 October as the qualification date. Degrees and registrations must exist on 31 August 2026.
  2. Skipping Tamil proof. Adequate Tamil is mandatory except for the notified exemptions (Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, Research Assistant, Port Officer, System Analyst).
  3. Uploading a generic experience letter for TANCEM / TIDCO posts. The PDF asks for plant capacity, sector and senior-capacity wording.
  4. Applying as PwBD to a post listed as not suitable, or as a non-Hindu for Regional Sthapathi.
  5. Missing the 3-day correction window and then finding a community or subject-paper error.

How Are CTSE Interview Posts Selected?

Selection is a multi-stage process. Written marks alone do not equal appointment.

  1. Written examination (CBT) — Paper I and Paper II. Admission is based on claims in the online application.
  2. On-screen certificate verification — in the ratio of 1:3 or 1:4 for posts without experience, and 1:10 for posts that require experience. Experience certificates are checked with the Head of Department/organisation.
  3. Physical certificate verification and Interview (Oral Test) — the interview assesses personality, bearing, aptitude, general knowledge and technical knowledge. Interview carries 60 marks.
  4. Final merit — Part B and Part C of Paper I + Paper II + Interview, subject to the rule of reservation. Maximum 510 marks.
  5. Counselling, where the notification provides for it, then appointment by the department or PSU.

Appearance in Paper I, Paper II and the Interview is compulsory. Missing any stage removes the candidate from consideration.

Shortlisting into physical CV and interview: if vacancies reserved for a category are five or more, about two times that number are called from that category; if four or below, the notification’s lower multiple applies.

Exam Pattern

Merit total: 510 marks. Paper II subject codes differ by post. Choose the paper printed against your post in the notification.

The notification does not state negative marking in the extracts used for this article. Follow the instructions on the hall ticket and scheme pages on tnpsc.gov.in.

Hall tickets are issued only on tnpscexams.in / tnpsc.gov.in. They are not posted.

Use the Cut-off Marks Calculator only as a planning tool after official keys and cut-offs are published. No 2026 CTSE Interview cut-off exists yet.

Physical and medical standards

This is not a police or CAPF rally. Still, the Port Officer and Senior Entomologist carry notified eye-fitness / medical conditions. Other posts follow standard medical fitness for the department. Read the post-specific medical paragraph in the PDF before you apply.

Why Does TNPSC Tamil Nadu Matter?

Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission is the constitutional recruiting agency for the Government of Tamil Nadu. Combined Technical Services Examination is the Commission’s dedicated channel for specialist and technical cadres that do not sit inside Group I, II or IV.

CTSE Interview Posts place candidates in Animal Husbandry, Public Health, HR&CE temple works, Legislative Assembly reporting, Public Libraries, Town Planning, Industries, Textiles, Collegiate Education, Prisons, Adi Dravidar Welfare, and corporations such as SIPCOT, TIDCO, TANCEM, TIIC, ELCOT, TABCEDCO and the Maritime Board.

Candidates search this cycle for three reasons. First, 79 Veterinary Assistant Surgeon seats are a large, regular-service opening for B.V.Sc. holders in Tamil Nadu. Second, Level 22–30 pay is higher than most CTSE Non-Interview technical seats notified earlier in 2026. Third, CA, ACS, MBA and senior engineering profiles rarely see this many PSU-linked interview posts in one state list.

The honest downside: several high-pay seats need 7–20 years of narrowly worded experience, the written-plus-interview pipeline is long, and a PSU posting may use EPF rather than state pension rules.

The SahisarkariJobs.in Analyst’s Take

The closest tab most serious applicants already have open is TNPSC CTSE Non-Interview Posts 2026, not UPSC or SSC. Non-Interview CTSE filled a much larger technical pool earlier this year without an oral test and at generally lower pay levels. This Interview notification is smaller (170) but senior: Level 22 is the floor, Port Officer is Level 30, and TANCEM’s Unit Head is Level 28. For B.V.Sc. graduates, the comparison is also Tamil Nadu medical / AH recruitment boards, not IBPS.

Best fit: registered veterinary graduates targeting VAS; CA / CMA / ACS officers who already have the year-count the PDF asks for; Legislative Assembly shorthand pass-outs; and engineers who can prove cement-plant or infrastructure project years in the exact language of the notification.

Who should walk past this one: fresh B.E. holders aiming at TANCEM DGM or TIDCO AGM seats; candidates who cannot show Tamil eligibility and are not on the four-post exemption list; applicants who want a no-interview, marks-only finish (that product already ran as CTSE Non-Interview / Diploma-ITI in 2026).

Practical tip: Lock the subject paper code against your post before paying. A VAS candidate and a SIPCOT Assistant Manager do not write the same Paper II. Wrong paper wastes the ₹200 fee and the attempt.

Based on other TNPSC interview technical cycles, expect several months from application to joining. Treat 2026–27 as the working horizon, not October 2026.

What Documents Are Required for Tamil Nadu Govt Jobs?

Keep scans ready in the size the portal specifies:

  • SSLC / HSC / degree / PG marksheets and certificates (qualification date 31 August 2026)
  • Community certificate in the Tamil Nadu format, if claiming reservation
  • Destitute Widow / Ex-Servicemen / PwBD / PSTM certificates, if applicable
  • Proof of adequate knowledge in Tamil (or exemption post)
  • Veterinary Council registration (VAS and Research Assistant)
  • Certificate of Competency and sailing/Chief Officer proof (Port Officer)
  • GTE shorthand and typewriting certificates (Reporters)
  • Experience certificates matching plant capacity, sector and designation where required
  • Photo (20–50 KB) and signature (10–20 KB)
  • Live OTR details and application printout for CV

Document alert: Experience for TANCEM must speak to a one-million-tonne cement plant. A generic “works in a factory” letter will fail onscreen CV at the 1:10 ratio.

Service Conditions

The appointing authority is the department or corporation named against the post, not TNPSC. Probation, transfers, conduct rules and social security (NPS / GPF vs EPF) follow that employer.

Reservation follows Tamil Nadu rules, with the Destitute Widow and Ex-Servicemen overall reservation exception noted in the notification. Some seats are backlog or shortfall only.

Hostel, housing or an official vehicle is not guaranteed in this notification.

What Happens After Selection?

  1. Written result and on-screen CV list appear on tnpsc.gov.in. SMS/email is only a courtesy.
  2. Upload or re-upload certificates in the window TNPSC gives. Experience is referred to the department head.
  3. Attend physical certificate verification and the 60-mark interview on the date in the memo.
  4. Final ranking uses 510 marks and the reservation roster. Counselling is held where provided.
  5. The user department or PSU issues the appointment order, medical exam and joining date.
  6. Probation and posting are decided by that employer. District preference is not a candidate right unless the department later calls for it.

Promotion paths differ: VAS moves inside Animal Husbandry; SIPCOT/TIDCO officers follow corporation rules; District Library Officer sits in Public Libraries. There is no single TNPSC career ladder after allotment.

FAQs – TNPSC CTSE Interview Posts 2026

Q1: What is the last date to apply for TNPSC CTSE Interview Posts 2026?

A: 06 October 2026, 11:59 PM. Applications open on 07 September 2026 on tnpscexams.in. No extension has been announced as of 31 August 2026. The 10–12 October window is only for permitted corrections.

Q2: What is the age limit for TNPSC CTSE Interview Posts?

A: Minimum 21 years as of 01 July 2026. Others usually face a 32–47 year cap by post; many reserved-category technical posts have no maximum below 60. PwBD may get 10 years on eligible posts. Ex-Servicemen may go up to 50 on specified posts.

Q3: Is there an exam for TNPSC CTSE Interview Posts, or is it interview-based?

A: Yes, there is a CBT. Paper I (Tamil eligibility + GS + aptitude) and Paper II (subject/stenography) come first. Then onscreen CV, a physical CV and a 60-mark interview. Final rank uses 510 marks plus reservation.

Q4: What is the salary of TNPSC CTSE Interview Posts?

A: Most seats are Level 22, basic ₹56,100, with Chennai-class in-hand often around ₹78,000–₹92,000 at current DA. Port Officer is Level 30 (basic ₹1,23,600). PSU posts may use EPF rather than state pension.

Q5: Can final-year students or result-awaited candidates apply for TNPSC 2026?

A: No, if the degree is not in hand on 31 August 2026. The notification fixes qualifications on the notification date, not on the last application date. Produce originals at certificate verification.

Q6: Is TNPSC CTSE Interview Posts a permanent government job?

A: Yes, for line-department seats filled by direct recruitment through TNPSC. Corporation seats (SIPCOT, TIDCO, TANCEM, TIIC, ELCOT, TABCEDCO, Maritime Board) follow that PSU’s service and PF rules. Confirm pension versus EPF from the appointment order.

Q7: Can candidates from other states apply for TNPSC recruitment?

A: Yes, Indian citizens may apply. Reservation benefits normally require Tamil Nadu community documents. Adequate Tamil is still required except for the four exempted posts. Other-state certificates often fail the roster test.

Q8: Where will I be posted if I get selected for CTSE Interview Posts?

A: Anywhere in Tamil Nadu under the allotting department or PSU. VAS and entomology work is field-heavy. Assembly Reporters sit in Chennai. You do not choose the first station unless counselling rules say so.

Q9: Is Tamil Nadu domicile compulsory for Combined Technical Services posts?

A: Citizenship of India is the base rule. Domicile is not written as a blanket bar in the extracts used here. In practice, reserved vacancies go to candidates with valid Tamil Nadu community certificates. Open-competition seats remain the realistic route for others.

Q10: How many attempts are allowed in TNPSC technical services exams?

A: No separate attempt cap is stated beyond age. You may apply in later CTSE cycles if you still meet age and qualification. Each notification is a fresh application with a fresh fee.

Q11: What are the disadvantages of TNPSC interview technical posts?

A: Here’s the catch — written plus interview stretches the calendar, experience wording is narrow for the best-paid PSU seats, and some corporations sit on EPF rather than state pension. Interview marks also introduce a 60-mark oral variable that Non-Interview CTSE does not have.

Q12: What is the salary of Tamil Nadu state technical officers?

A: Level 22 officers start at a basic salary of ₹56,100 under the state matrix. With DA near 60% and city HRA, many see take-home pay in the high ₹70,000s to around ₹90,000 in Chennai. Level 28–30 posts and DGM posts sit well above ₹1.5 lakh in-hand before deductions.

Q13: Is Combined Technical Services worth it compared with Group 2?

A: It depends on your degree. Group 2 is a generalist civil-services funnel. CTSE Interview is for a named technical paper and a named department. A B.V.Sc. or CA profile usually gains more from this list than from CCSE-II. A plain arts graduate should not force-fit this notification.

Final Checklist – Is This the Right Job for You?

  • You meet the age as on 01 July 2026 and hold the exact qualification on 31 August 2026.
  • You accept Regular Government Service or the named PSU’s service/PF rules.
  • Veterinary / shorthand/competency/experience certificates are ready in the wording the PDF uses.
  • You can sit for Paper I, the correct Paper II and a 60-mark interview.
  • You are willing to serve anywhere in Tamil Nadu in the allotted department.
